if you want really really good battery life, a good laptop for that seems to be the T480 (8th gen intel).

It’s relatively cheap used and if you get the 24wh internal and 72wh external batteries you can get 96wh in total

Jumuta,

If the outlook account is only tied to the minecraft account and Microsoft doesn’t know who made the outlook account, isn’t that pretty safely private? Ofc microsoft can read the emails, but they won’t contain any personal info of OP.

i don’t like how Ubuntu feels (gui) so idk about cli issues

it’s not a problem with Gnome btw, it’s just the colours are yuck vomit and snap 🗿

Jumuta,

650 mi/s is 1040,000m/s which is mach 3032. the heating at that point would be mainly from the superheated plasma, not wind resistance

Jumuta,

wdym?

i know but the word just doesn’t sound nice

Jumuta,

yeah, I know the utility of the word but it just doesn’t sound nice, I try to restructure my sentences to avoid it whenever possible. just the tone of “yall” has the “trying to seem cool” vibe and it feels like an overfriendly word to use in most scenarios.

Jumuta,

except he doesn’t talk about the difference in bootloader installation for uefi

Ending support for Windows 10 could send 240 million computers to the landfill. Why not install Linux on them? (gadgettendency.com)

With support ending for Windows 10, the most popular desktop operating system in the world currently, possibly 240 million pcs may be sent to the landfill. This is mostly due to Windows 11’s exorbitant requirements. This will most likely result in many pcs being immediately outdated, and prone to viruses. GNU/Linux may be...

Jumuta,

just try one in a vm?

also, most of the differences are not that big, any one of them will work fine for most people.

Jumuta,

same! KDE is seriously just windows DE with more polish and customisation

Jumuta,

except when it’s a transmission failure

Jumuta,

♥️ KDE default apps ♥️

Dolphin, Konsole, Okular, Skanpage are so nice and I wouldn’t be able to live without them. They feel so polished and solid, and somehow manage to have all the features I want without feeling cluttered

What distro would you recommend for a 32-bit old Acer One laptop? (kbin.social)

It's an old model (Acer One D257) Processor is Intel Atom. Memory is 1GB DDR3 with 320 GB of HDD. I currently Have MX 21 running on it, but I need to reinstall because I forgot the root password. Since I'm reinstalling the OS, I thought I'd ask here for recommendations for an OS that makes the most of this oldie.

Jumuta,

Debian based distros can be very different from each other. Ubuntu, Mint, Pop!, etc are all based off debian. I think what the commenter you’re replying to is saying is to install the stock debian image, because that’s the lightest version of debian.

windows’ ram overhead is insane though, it’s not like I can’t run it but I wouldn’t want to daily drive it

Help, boot doesn't work anymore

I have a laptop eith sata and a nvme drive. I installed a few operating systems and I decided on Mint for Sata. Installed it copied data from Nvme drive since I was using it as primary. I installed Nobara on nvme and it worked flawless until a few moments ago. Reboted and Mint is gone from boot options. Tried to add it but...

Jumuta,

isn’t ubuntu based on debian stable and so have even older packages?

Jumuta,

gotta get that t61 rizz

Jumuta,

try booting off a live usb of a Linux distro you are curious about, it’s easy and reversible

Jumuta,

those ppl will create noise at whatever cost lmao, I bet they’ll start attaching external speakers at some point to compensate for the lack of engine noise

I made it to Linux! What is your must-have FOSS or Free Software for linux?

Thank you so much, comrades! I am feeling pretty comfortable with linux mint, and now would like some suggestions for some absolutely necessary FOSS or free license software for the OS. So far I have the standard, Firefox, ThunderBird, LibreOffice, yada yada. Thank you again to everyone on the linux comm! sankara-salute
