I think, it’s only in the free version of Spotify. So, if you’re paying for Spotify Premium, you wouldn’t have that problem.

But I mean, I’m obviously completely out of the Spotify loop, so definitely take that one with a grain of salt…

It hails back to the early days of the ampersand, from when it was basically still just Latin “et”: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Trebuchet_MS_ampersand.svg

Personally, I do like this font (Fira Mono+Sans), because it still looks professional, without being so boring that I get depression from looking at it.
But yeah, that ampersand is pushing it a bit, as I’m not sure everyone else knows that’s an ampersand…

But it’s literally reversed now? Windows is the only consumer-grade paid OS and it’s also the worst consumer-grade OS.

Bill Gates promised higher software quality and then delivered an OS, which has pretty much as its only quality that other software targets it.

Knusper,

I’m no expert either, but yeah, I believe the lazy method of making the curry dish (Indian, Thai etc.) is to use curry paste. Our curry powder barely resembles the taste of the curry dish. In particular, it’s lacking tons of chili. 🫠

Knusper,

Well, yeah, to some degree these are just very easy to prepare. To some degree, they’re just the lowest common denominator, though, which is what I’m mainly annoyed by. Lots of these simpler foods could be easily improved by adding some spices, or we could even adopt some of the many street foods in Eastern Asia, to bring in more variety…

Knusper,

I imagine what they mean is e.g. that TypeScript can tell you something is a Date, but it doesn’t attempt to fix some of the confusing, quirky behaviour with that: developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/…/Date#inter…

So, yes, it’s generally better than JS, but it doesn’t actually make it good/attractive, if you’re used to the sanity of backend languages. It very much feels like lipstick on a pig.

Knusper,

Mozilla will want to be API-compatible, but there’s nothing inherent to the API that requires the arbitrary content-blocking limitation that Google put in. So, Mozilla will be API-compatible without adopting this shitty limitation.

Knusper,

It does use the GTK file-open dialog by default (although distributions can swap that out).

It also takes inspiration from the GTK theme for drawing buttons and whatnot, so they fit into the OS. KDE generates a GTK theme, though, so that’s rarely a problem.

Knusper,

Trust me, the eng team doesn’t want to fuck with Python either.

Knusper,

Personally, I ask myself why you need the box…?

Most cereal I buy comes without a box anyways, but can’t you just throw the box away, if it does?

Knusper,

Yeah, alright, that makes sense, if you’ve got more food in boxes. I have my bags of cerial just in a random drawer…

I use Brave to test whether my websites work on Chromium browsers, but their scummy actions lately make me want to find a new Chromium browser to test with. What's the best Chromium based browser?

I already use Firefox for browsing normally, but I have to test on a Chromium based browser too. One soft requirement is that it should be installable with Flatpak on Linux.

Knusper,

Oh, I rather doubt it.

It is built on top of Qt, so I assume, theoretically, it wouldn’t be terribly difficult to do the port, but you need someone who regularly tests+fixes it under macOS. And well, it’s a non-commercial project, so you need someone who volunteers to do that…

Knusper,

Possible, yeah. Falkon was previously an independent project (QupZilla). I don’t know how much they’ve intermingled with the other KDE devs yet, but that’s certainly no insurmountable problem either.

Knusper,

I tend to use Falkon, which is developed by the KDE community…

Knusper,

It can also be onomatopoeia for eating something crispy. So, imagine a comic where a hamster is nibbling away at a cracker, then above that can be written:

Knusper Knusper

(basically Crunch Crunch)

But yeah, thanks for the rest of the explanation. I chose this username essentially at random when signing up here, but it’s been growing on me. Just a fun word in our language.

Knusper,

Yeah, I had it on Super+T at first, too, but I have the command/application/everything runner bound to Super+Esc and I open a lot of terminal windows throughout the day, so I re-bound it to Super+R just because it’s slightly easier to reach.

Knusper,

Super+F -> Firefox
Super+R -> Terminal
Super+E -> File Manager
Super+X -> Note-taking program

Knusper,

I do composing, too, and I’ve written my fair share of shoddy scripts to automate tasks, but changing up the whole keyboard layout for a task, that’s the sort of madness I aspire to. 🙃

Knusper,

Well, I’m glad we got to the bottom of what’s unrealistic about traveling back in time…

Knusper,

Yesterday, I read an article¹, where it says in the context of this year’s astronomical ocean temperatures:

“The land tends to warm up more than the ocean, but if the ocean is so warm, you essentially start having very high temperatures and dry conditions because the ocean is evaporating and raining on itself,” Dr Bracco said.

As I understand this, normally it would rain near the coast, because that’s where the ocean would heat up the most, under pre-climate-change conditions. And that’s now out of wonk, generally leading to droughts.

Maybe California is for whatever reason in an inversed situation, where their rainfall likeliness is actually improved by the hot oceans…

¹ The article, very much not uplifting: www.abc.net.au/news/2023-08-21/…/102701172

Knusper,

Meta’s new Threads network is supposed to start federating via ActivityPub at some point.
