My beagle has suddenly started resource guarding random stuff. What should I do to get this behavior to stop?

I’ll start off by saying that he has a bad past life. He was obviously abused by his previous owners and straight up abandoned in the woods. He has bad anxiety that he is on Prozac for, and it seems to be helping for the most part....

Lol she’s not because the dogs don’t even listen to her

Ive been having my little sister take him and the other dogs out to play several times a day. My boy sleeps most of the day though lol

Thank you so much for all the advice! I’ll definitely try out what you said. He just got a checkup and the vet said he is fine. He could probably use more exercise, but I physically can’t take him out because my leg is messed up. My sister is in charge of that during the day until my parents get home.

I’ve found that talking to him calmly when correcting other bad behavior is more effective than being firm. He really doesn’t like when people aren’t chill. Lil dude has made huge improvements with his anxiety since I got him, and I know we can get through this as well. When I brought him home, any kind of precipitation would send him into panic attacks. I had to get him a raincoat so we could work on getting him used to rain and all that. Now he’ll go outside in the rain, but wants back in as soon as he finishes his business lol. It’s just gonna take time for this current issue. I have so much time since I’m laid up, so I can work on training constantly.

I’m looking into trainers, but there aren’t many around me that are affordable or have good reviews. I live in a rural area that has the “be the alpha” mentality when it comes to animals. I get judged a lot by other dog owners around me when I say that I don’t hit or yell at my dog. They say he’ll walk all over me, but he’s a good boy. He listens really well for the most part, aside from when his nose gets the better of him.

I’m going to try trading him stuff and teaching him to drop stuff and see how it goes. I told my sister to come get me or my mom if he has something he shouldn’t. My sister has a hard time grasping how to behave around animals, so I want my mom and I to do the training at first soy sister doesn’t get bit again. I’d rather get bit. My stepfather is a bit extreme with some things, so the rest of us have been downplaying the resource guarding so my stepfather doesn’t get mad and get mean with my boy or want him put down.

The room I’m in isn’t good for fetch or stuff like that. I’m going to see if my parents can help me into the yard tomorrow so I can play with all of the dogs. My sister said she made up a new game with them that they love but won’t go into more detail lol.

I’ve given my dogs kongs, but the beagle loses interest if he can’t easily get the stuff out. If I make the kings easy, he’ll eat it all in 30 seconds. The puppy isn’t food motivated and just ignores the kongs.

Thank you so much for the advice! I’m looking into trainers. My boy knows “leave it” when he is actively trying to get something he shouldn’t. I think I’m going to use “drop it” when he has things in his mouth. I don’t want him to get “leave it” confused after taking almost a year to learn it.

He just had a checkup and everything is fine. I’m 100% not taking the tough guy route.

How do you work full-time and stay awake all shift?

A few questions to people who have struggled long-term with fatigue, exhaustion, insomnia, etc.: what do you do to keep awake for a full-time workday? Black coffee, supplements, herbs, drugs/prescriptions, other? None, and it required a lifecycle habit change? Have you had success with “desk” jobs sitting all day, or had to...

This applies the when I was working in an office. I’m wfh because of an injury, but will be returning part time next month.

I take my second dose of ADHD medication at 11:30. Right when I start my lunch. I try not to include too many carbs in my lunch because that will make me sleepy.

I also make sure to take the long way back to my desk after using the bathroom to get my blood pumping.

I also drink absurd amounts of coffee and listen to energetic music.

When I am working from home I take a nap during my lunch lol.

I hope you can find a company as good as mine. I feel appreciated and cared for for the first time at a job. I broke my ankle and leg in October and had to have surgery to fix it. Everyone has been incredibly accommodating and supportive during my recovery. When I was in the hospital after the injury, I was either too high or crying too much to update my bosses on my condition. My mom did the calling for me and the owner of the company had her tell me that I don’t need to worry about keeping my job and focus on recovering. I ugly cried when I was told that.

Super tempted to ask for one if one isn’t offered lol

Oh that’s a good one! Especially since profit is up a whole fuck ton rn. I did do a job where we made $5400 to retrieve 3 emails.

I know that I have to get a specific Microsoft cert to get discussions on a promotion started. I attempted the cert exam and failed pretty badly. Gotta study more.

I plan on asking for specific feedback and how I can improve and all that.

I have loads of resources, so I just need to study.

I am interested in literally everything. I wanna learn more server stuff and phone systems especially. I am last in line to learn phones though. I do a lot of basic stuff with most of the things you’ve listed, though. I’m currently trying to fix the backups on a client’s server and I’m actually making progress on my own.

Thank you for such a detailed response! My company pays for the first attempt at a cert test, but I have to pay for it myself if I fail and have to retake it. I am also going to ask for a raise if one isn’t offered. I had to do a self-evaluation and listed a bunch of stuff I want to learn and start doing. I have to get help from other techs for a lot of stuff that I end up not understanding, and I want to not have to rely on them so much going forward. Like, they’re more than happy to help me, but I don’t want them to put their work aside for me. As for my coworkers, they’re all absolutely amazing. I consider them work friends and we are close and support each other.

I could look into that. I got a udemy course on sale that has simulations and stuff. If those don’t cover what I am struggling with, I can totally see if we can spin up some temporary vms

What are your best air fryer/oven recipes?

My parents got me one of them fancy countertop air fryer/oven things and idk what to cook first when I get it set up. According to the box, it does everything a normal oven does as well as air fries. It can hold two whole chickens or 1 frozen pizza. It came with a rack for things like toast and a baking sheet. I also have a...
