LinkOpensChest_wav,

I feel quite the opposite. Reddit is populated predominantly by far right-wingers masquerading as libertarians. Things like racism, sexism, LGBTphobia, and xenophobia run rampant on the default subs. Every single thread on r/all is filled with them, and if you report them, you’re likely to catch a ban for “abusing the report button.” I actually got an IP ban for reporting a threat against trans people. Then there are the status quo warriors who fantasize about meting out violence against anyone who doesn’t fit the norm. Then there are the pedos, pedos everywhere.

Most of the so-called “leftist” subreddits are actually right-wing neoliberal subs, r/SubredditDrama or r/AgainstHateSubreddits, for example. These are not leftists or post-leftist, but system-defending pro-state pro-hierarchical neolibs. It would take a true fascist to call these people “leftist.”

And the admins are Nazis.

I like it here because it’s more moderate. Sure, there are some awful neoliberal mods on lemmy.world, but most of the users there seem alright. I’ve never felt like I’d be banned as an anarchist or for saying things like “punch Nazis” or “punch transphobes” like I was on that other hellsite. This place is much more welcoming.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

One of the best things I’ve done is to uncheck “show bot accounts” in settings.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I’ve followed a link onto reddit a few times recently, and the first thing I noticed was how unhinged and toxic the discussions are there.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Well, guess everyone has to go where they’re happy. Personally, I don’t find too much to like about reddit. It’s a hypermasculine right-wing platform with the most off-putting users It’s been my displeasure to interact with. There’s some of that here, but they usually get uncomfortable and leave, which is fucking great!

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Really? I’m having a much better time here than I ever did on reddit.

LinkOpensChest_wav, (edited )

Can confirm. I also have to use Sharepoint with certain groups, and it works just fine. The web interface for Outlook works just fine as well.

I also have to use Google at work, and everything I’ve used works within Firefox.

I think it’s important to point this out because a lot of people seem to be laboring under the misconception that the sites they use will break in Firefox. The only sites I’ve found that don’t work are things like Bing AI, which work fine if you switch the user agent header.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I know you are right about all of this, and yet I will still watch shows like the old Addams Family while I’m doing something else just to have a distraction

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I’ve started using Firefox at work, too. Unfortunately, I still have to use a lot of the Google sites at work, but they all work flawlessly within Firefox and uBO.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Plus, he’s got massive influence on his fanboys who worship his every move

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Some Republicans are good at deceiving others into thinking they’re good people.

I live in a red state. None of them are good people. If they were, they wouldn’t align with a party of hate.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

They might be polite to a fault, but they’re still not good. I agree.

LinkOpensChest_wav, (edited )

No, this is not an all the same thing, and you are unhinged if you think it is. The entire Republican platform is anti-human/anti-progress, and if you align with it in any way, for any reason, you have gone out of your way to be a piece of shit.

There’s no such thing as being a Republican and simultaneously being a good person. These things are not compatible, and certainly not comparable at all to something like race or ethnicity, such as being Jewish.

Edit: If you are arguing that Republicans have the potential to be good people, then this is absolutely true, but it would necessitate ceasing to be a Republican, which they can choose to do at any time.

“Some of the Nazis were good people” – Get the fuck out

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I’m a white redneck looking cis male in South Dakota. Many of these “nice” people think I’m one of them and will share their most abhorrent opinions with me, which they may not disclose in polite company. It’s to the point that I have to wear “woke” shirts that say things like BLM or trans rights to avoid these monsters.

I assure you my belief that Republicans are awful is not unfounded. Ask them what they think about LGBT+ people. “As long as they don’t shove it down my throat…” Ask them what they think about Native people – “That was so long ago, they need to get over [the genocide].” Ask them if climate change is real, ask them about the poor, ask them about undocumented workers.

Republicans are unfit for society. They would immediately be cast out of any functional community, and rightfully so. The only way to deal with them is to socially and systemically deplatform and disenfranchise them. That’s why I’d never make friends with a Republican.

Time to ditch #duckduckgo (lemmy.world)

In the last couple of months I have noticed an increasing trend of supplying me search results that are completely unrelated to the current query and tie back to my location or previous searches. I can say this with a high degree of certainty this is without a doubt beyond the 100th instance this has happened....

LinkOpensChest_wav,

You can do it that way if you grab that URL from the “cookies” section. Otherwise, it can save your preferences in a cookie.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

You can easily spoof the location on most search engines by using a VPN, but I’d much prefer my search engine solely respond to deliberate input from the user

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I’m unhappy that Kagi uses geo-location data to provide certain types of results

You might change your view about that if you ever read “Mutual Aid” by Peter Kropotkin. I used to think the same, but it appears things like authoritarianism and hierarchies actually run contrary to evolution. Not that the trait doesn’t exist, but it appears to be something that has been exacerbated in cultures that deliberately adopt a hierarchical system vs. something that’s just natural to all humans.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I’m not qualified to engage in your discussion, nor do I have a good experience trusting random internet strangers who say they’re certain things, but here’s Kropotkin’s book for anyone who wants to read it: theanarchistlibrary.org/…/petr-kropotkin-mutual-a…

Might tell the rest of the story.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Do you happen to have a Samsung? I recently learned that stock Android 13 does allow it, but Samsung’s OneUI removes this ability. I was absolutely livid when I learned about this.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Of those, I’ve read: Your Code Name is Jonah, Inside UFO 54-40, The Forbidden Castle, Underground Kingdom, Space Patrol, The Phantom Submarine, War With the Evil Power Master (my favorite), and Return to Atlantis. I loved those books.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

That’s what I think. I’ve noticed it’s people with certain opinions who complain about too much politics.
