LinkOpensChest_wav,

Oh, it was that post?

I didn’t even think it was making any statement. It was just a funny meme.

This package of bagels I bought expired on a date that doesn't exist. (i.imgur.com)

I originally posted this on the other site back when I took the picture, and it resulted in a lot of confused comments, especially from Americans, eventually getting removed by overzealous mods. Either way, I promise you that this date does not exist, and has never existed.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

It’s usually easy to determine which order the person commenting observes too, just from context. I’ve never understood the confusion.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I’m of the opinion that most people should be driving a lot less anyway, and that cars are heavy, potentially deadly machines that should be treated with the utmost caution.

I do suspect it’s much less risky to drive while high vs. intoxicated, but I’d certainly not do it, and I’d think less of anyone who does.

Anxiety, insomnia, hypertension, mood swings, urinary incontinence, diarrhea, dehydration, irregular heartbeat, overdose and death at very high doses

Not to worry, though. As scary as these effects may sound, for the vast majority of people, caffeine is generally considered as safe as other soft drugs such as aspirin or cannabis.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Good to know, thanks! I think most of the candy I eat is vegan. In fact, it would probably be an easy switch for me to go vegan.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Amen. One of the things I like best about anarchism is it introduces concepts that we can begin to practice immediately vs. awaiting some future revolution.

I really like the book I linked because to me it’s so much easier to read and digest than some of the famous works by authors like Kropotkin or Goldman.

Audible Anarchist has also uploaded a few chapters from the book, which I’ve been listening to on my walks: piped.privacydev.net/…/UCaO1QA8QL99_eb0XhJI2Fyw

Ayyyyy

LinkOpensChest_wav,

After seeing this post, I’m determined to more than double my potato salad consumption

LinkOpensChest_wav,

My heros will only ever possibly be my neighbors wherever I live.

That’s what I’m always saying! I know so many good working class folks in my friend group and neighborhood. I don’t feel compelled to look up to some celebrity who’s ultimately a complete rando to me.

There are artists and other famous people whose work I respect and admire, but my heros are people I know irl

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Hmmm. I feel like it’s more a deliberate distortion of reality.

The way I see it, it’s closely related to the approach used by segregationists who would use things like gerrymandering or poll tax to exclude Black voters and then claim that it’s not racist policy because they didn’t expressly mention race.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I’d like to add Lakota People’s Law Project and Minnesota Freedom Fund

Is there a Spotify alternative that has no ads?

I pay for Spotify for 7 years or so now and i'm so sick of all the ads. After every update there seems to be an: oops, sorry, you have ads now. Podcasts are filled with ads. I was just listening to a podcast where they shoved in 3 ads mid-sentence. How long until musicians put ads in their songs. I'm just so sick of it.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I second Spotube. I actually do pay for Spotify, but I’ve considered moving to Spotube entirely. I was really impressed when I tried it.

Time to ditch #duckduckgo (lemmy.world)

In the last couple of months I have noticed an increasing trend of supplying me search results that are completely unrelated to the current query and tie back to my location or previous searches. I can say this with a high degree of certainty this is without a doubt beyond the 100th instance this has happened....

LinkOpensChest_wav,

You can easily spoof the location on most search engines by using a VPN, but I’d much prefer my search engine solely respond to deliberate input from the user

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Do you happen to have a Samsung? I recently learned that stock Android 13 does allow it, but Samsung’s OneUI removes this ability. I was absolutely livid when I learned about this.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Skyrim was my chill game for years, but now I’d say Elder Scrolls Online. Everyone I know who plays ESO is super non-competitive and chill. It’s just got a great vibe.

LinkOpensChest_wav, (edited )

Same on android 13. There’s not even a “Mobile data & Wi-Fi” category, just “Mobile data.”

You could use an app like NetGuard to block internet access, but I’ve not found that to be a very practical solution, especially for VPN users.

Edit: Looks like it’s a Samsung thing.

I really wish I didn’t have a Samsung. What a horrible way to treat consumers, removing a basic function of the OS.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

What the fuck. I’ve been to many, many clubs and shows with creative lighting, and never once heard of or experienced a problem like this. This had to be reckless ignorance on the event planners to result in something like this. Holy shit.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

My current employer is fully into Google’s ecosystem, so we don’t use a dedicated email client.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

You misunderstand when you say “systems to prevent those things aren’t necessary.” These things are absolutely addressed by anarchists. We’re not foolish enough to rely on the goodness of human nature to carry us through. There is no state, there are no hierarchies, but people causing harm absolutely can experience consequences under anarchism. Diffuse sanctions, for example. At worst, they can be removed from the community or group entirely.

But more than anything else, it’s important to recognize that mutual aid is just as much a part of human nature as things like rape and murder, and the rate at which rape and murder occur are greatly exacerbated by hierarchies. For example, things like masculinity have to go, and we need to stop putting people in positions of power over others and creating such hierarchies.

And this brings me back to the topic at hand. I cannot conceive of an anarchist who would in any way approve of sexually abusing someone young enough to be considered a minor. Above all, anarchists aim to remove hierarchies, and having a grown adult in a relationship with a young teenager – this would create such a power differential that I can’t imagine any anarchist approving of it or hand-waving it away. The anarchists I know very strongly disapprove of such a thing.

The people we colloquially call “libertarians”(1) on the other hand still seem to support the state as well as hierarchies such as those created under capitalism. In fact, most self-described libertarians I know want to do nothing to address the things you mentioned, as well as nothing to address other harmful things such as the social and systemic discrimination against groups like LGBT+ people, BIPOC, women, and others.

(1)yes, a bit of a misnomer since it would make more sense to call anarchists “libertarians,” though no one does, unless we append it with “libertarian left,” though even this seems like a silly term for anarchism

LinkOpensChest_wav,

So does this cause advertisers to lose money since their ads are being clicked but never viewed by human eyes? Because if so, I’ll install ad nauseum asap

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Yeah, it’s super nice. And if for some reason that instance is down, it has the integrated ability to ping other instances to see which ones work and how fast. There are a ton of nifty features in that one little add-on, it’s pretty impressive.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

This whole thread is weird. I think it’s hilarious how people are arguing with you, saying it’s impossible and then linking sites that list every brand owned by Nestlé. You’d think it would occur to them that if one is able to consult a list, that makes it possible to avoid Nestlé products, since one can merely consult the list.

I think there are some synapses not firing here 😅
