LinkOpensChest_wav,

I was in the same situation. I started to walk and longboard every day and track my calories without exception.

Eventually, you can see changes and it becomes easier over time, but oh boy I never shame anyone for their body size, because it’s hella hard, and if you’re coping with other problems like depression or addiction, it’s gotta feel damn near impossible.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I’m a huge proponent of legalization, and I think weed is great, but you’re objectively a worse driver while high. Please don’t.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

This pales in comparison to the damaging effects of alcohol on the heart and the rest of the body

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I would however like to clarify that neither Republicans nor Democrats will solve the systemic issues in any meaningful way, and it’s not saying “both sides are the same” to point this out. I literally voted for Biden, but I still have Democrats accuse me of “voting for Trump” when I point out ways the Democrats do things like uphold a capitalist economy, extend the reach of fascist agencies like ICE, take power away from the working class, compromise with right-wing extremists, and observe a hierarchical system.

I can agree that Republicans are far worse, and I can cast my vote, while still being honest about the situation.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

This is the same thing as people who claim Trump’s not racist. It’s so patently absurd to claim that you can’t see evidence of her transphobia even when it’s right in front of you that people are left dumbfounded. It’s so obvious you’re not saying this is earnest.

Someone help me out, isn’t there a name for this technique? It’s not “gish gallop” because it’s not an endless stream of out-of-pocket claims, but rather one claim that’s so colossally batshit that it can’t be addressed. It’s like someone saying, “No one’s produced evidence of humans requiring oxygen to live.” It’s a way to successfully dodge an issue because of the absurdity of the claim being made. Is it called “red herring”?

LinkOpensChest_wav,

That’s a reeeeaaaal stretch, and I think you know it lol

Seems to me more likely that OP is supporting veganism

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Has it, though? I grew up in the 80s, and I feel like I simply didn’t have a clue how ignorant people were or what batshit things people believed behind closed doors. Even when people disclosed to me their inner narrative, I feel like I just assumed they were joking or using extreme hyperbole.

The internet has made me realize … they weren’t joking. At all. They really believe that shit.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

One of my co-workers does this from her office. I pretend I have really bad hearing and don’t ever respond, but she persists.

Thankfully, my husband and I are pretty good about actually approaching each other. If I ever heard my husband call me from another room, I’d know it’s an emergency.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

They might be polite to a fault, but they’re still not good. I agree.

LinkOpensChest_wav, (edited )

No, this is not an all the same thing, and you are unhinged if you think it is. The entire Republican platform is anti-human/anti-progress, and if you align with it in any way, for any reason, you have gone out of your way to be a piece of shit.

There’s no such thing as being a Republican and simultaneously being a good person. These things are not compatible, and certainly not comparable at all to something like race or ethnicity, such as being Jewish.

Edit: If you are arguing that Republicans have the potential to be good people, then this is absolutely true, but it would necessitate ceasing to be a Republican, which they can choose to do at any time.

“Some of the Nazis were good people” – Get the fuck out

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I’m a white redneck looking cis male in South Dakota. Many of these “nice” people think I’m one of them and will share their most abhorrent opinions with me, which they may not disclose in polite company. It’s to the point that I have to wear “woke” shirts that say things like BLM or trans rights to avoid these monsters.

I assure you my belief that Republicans are awful is not unfounded. Ask them what they think about LGBT+ people. “As long as they don’t shove it down my throat…” Ask them what they think about Native people – “That was so long ago, they need to get over [the genocide].” Ask them if climate change is real, ask them about the poor, ask them about undocumented workers.

Republicans are unfit for society. They would immediately be cast out of any functional community, and rightfully so. The only way to deal with them is to socially and systemically deplatform and disenfranchise them. That’s why I’d never make friends with a Republican.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Really? I’m having a much better time here than I ever did on reddit.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

You might change your view about that if you ever read “Mutual Aid” by Peter Kropotkin. I used to think the same, but it appears things like authoritarianism and hierarchies actually run contrary to evolution. Not that the trait doesn’t exist, but it appears to be something that has been exacerbated in cultures that deliberately adopt a hierarchical system vs. something that’s just natural to all humans.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

That’s not a problem that’s unique to AI, though; and misinformation would be much easier to address if you remove the profit incentive. Misinformation sells.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Ok and we shouldn’t be willing to tolerate someone believing LGBT+ is dirty or sinful. That’s a belief that causes much harm. Imagine a trans child having to grow up in a home with parents who tell them it is a sin. LGBTphobia leads to abuse, all the time, so we should not tolerate it.

Saying we should simply compromise is some blind privilege if I’ve ever seen it.

I can honestly say that being poor forced me to learn how to survive under adverse circumstances. Rich people lack even that. They’re completely useless to themselves and to society.

That’s not capitalism, lol.

What a snide fucking remark brimful of ignorance. I never even mentioned capitalism, yet here you are to defend it. Bootlicker or capitalist?

Edit: Dude bought a car for 35k. Rich person detected, opinion discarded.

LinkOpensChest_wav,

I think government only works when it has the power to militarily dominate any competing force.

I’ll take Yikes! for 100, Alex

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Which sites work better in Chrome? I’m forced to use the Google suite at work, and I do everything within Firefox. Even sites that insist they only work in Chrome have always worked for me merely by switching the user-agent header

LinkOpensChest_wav,

Cops won’t help you or I because we’re not the capitalist class. It’s even worse if you’re a minority. And same with most other people, unfortunately.

I live in small town South Dakota where people like to imagine they’re friendly, but they’re some of the most fucked up people you’ll ever have the displeasure to meet. I have the bad luck genetically to look like “one of the boys,” and so other men have disclosed to me their most unhinged thoughts and opinions, thinking I’ll agree. Don’t let them fool you – they’d absolutely commit murder or worse to get what they want.

I often think the best chance we’ve got is to curate a small group of people and live apart from all this. And what my husband’s been through too when he was a child, it makes me enraged. It’s like he says, humans are the most fucked up animal on the planet, and literally everything on earth would be better with us out of the picture.
