Liz,

It is. It got federalized during World War 1 and later the supreme Court basically ruled that the federal government wasn’t allowed to do that but they weren’t going to make the federal government give control back to the individual states anyway.

These days some states have state guards, but not all do. Of those that do, a significant amount are absolute jokes. It’s fairly logical, of course. What state has needed an army in the last hundred years?

Liz,

There are way better things to spend your money on so that your budget doesn’t shrink next year. Arguments of whether they need they money or not aside, that’s a real problem for them. Ideas off the top of my head that probably wouldn’t signal to the town that they’re under occupation:

• Ammo and range time • Conflict management training • Public relations block party • Solar panels on the roof • Diet, exercise, and lifestyle training • Law review classes

Liz,

The Romans used to do the opposite, and tie their foreskin shut just to be extra sure no one would see the head of their penis.

Liz,

I did NTFS because both windows and Linux can read it. Do I know literally any other fact about formatting systems? Nope. I’m pretty sure I don’t need to, I’m normie-adjacent. I just want my system to work so I can use the internet, play games, and do word processing.

Liz,

Start installing malware on their machines that reminds them to call every once in a while.

Liz,

It is my opinion that a company with uses a generative or analytical AI must be held legally responsible for its output.

Liz,

In my opinion, we shouldn’t waste time in the courts arguing over whether a claim or offer made by an algorithm is considered reasonable or not. If you want to blindly rely on the technology, you have to be responsible for its output. Keep it simple and let the corporations (and the people making agreements with a chatbot) shoulder the risk and responsibility.

Liz,

I hate inflation too, but I understand why it’s necessary. Imagine if rich people had an even easier time hoarding their wealth.

Although now that think of it, maybe at this point we really don’t need to create positive feedback loops for economic growth anymore.

Liz,

That’s gotta be a local thing. I have a hard time seeing landlord snow removal making it into federal law (assuming you’re American).

Liz,

Great point in that first paragraph. In the second paragraph, it’s my understanding that you can’t sue if there was no expectation of safety. If the path isn’t cleared in the slightest, then you’re not liable. I also know that in some areas the owner can just write into the lease “you guys have to clear the snow” and it becomes the tenant’s responsibility.

Anyway, fucking, clear your sidewalks people, be nice.

Liz, (edited )

The relationships were from 1993-1995. Everyone in the graph is in their late 40s. So everything you said about attitudes is probably just more true.

Liz,

I’ve spotted five cycles.

  1. The big boy.
  2. Six member cycle at the top of the big boy.
  3. Four member cycle with that guy who slept with nine girls.
  4. A second cycle with that same guy.
  5. That three way over to the right.

It’s possible there’s more but I’m pretty sure that’s it.

Liz,

Oh, uh, hello. How does one break this DRM, out of curiosity?

Liz,

And shit trains, and pointless poverty, and ridiculous town planning, and an absurd prison system, and shit voting and representation, and unlimited money in politics, and weak-sauce unions…

Liz,

Extremely wrong. The ideal A:Z ratio is more like 1:4.

Liz,

Remember that Z is the radius. It’s flatter than you think. I made sure to reference an actual rectangle before making that statement.

Liz,

Is the chrome OS not full-fledged? I used it once ten years ago. Seemed fine.

Liz,

Yep. Corded tools don’t need to be charged. Love it!

Liz,

Good Lord that should be a thing.

Liz,

I hate being the kind of person that ties things back to “we live in a society,” but our town planning sure isn’t helping…

Liz,

The fundamental cause of America’s problem is the two-party system. If you want to get rid of that you have to switch to a proportional representation system. I would suggest working at the local or state level. I do not know of any organization working on this issue. You would likely have to start one yourself or hire someone else to do so.

If you’re genuinely going to do it, any suggestion I make here about specifics would be pointless, as you should do significant research before deciding on what flavor of proportional representation to push and where. But, the key is to adopt a system known for accurate and small party representation. If a party gets enough votes to win a single seat, they should be awarded a single seat. If they get a third of the votes, they should get a third of the seats.

Let me know if you want to talk specifics.

Liz,

While I’m downright chuckling at the desire to go back to rotary phones, I gotta appreciate that there’s always someone who liked things better the old way.

Liz,

Nice! I inherited mine from my grandfather and I hope to pass it on myself someday.

Liz,

Physical buttons in cars

Repairable phones

Repairable laptops

Resoleable shoes

Hand-crank drills (for those quick and easy projects where dealing with batteries or cords isn’t worth it)

External frames on hiking packs

Actually tough jeans that need to be broken in and last a while

Headphone jack

Liz,

As a person who doesn’t want to fiddle with my OS or the terminal, yeah, I love me some Mint.
