MiddledAgedGuy, to linux in Just install EndeavorOS lol

I agree. I don’t use Arch (I have in the past) but I use Arch Wiki heavily.

MiddledAgedGuy, to memes in $1 grilled cheese

I can’t argue with that!

I enjoyed the all too accurate description.

MiddledAgedGuy, to memes in $1 grilled cheese

I get that it’s probably a joke. But I would absolutely go out of my way to get small bills to buy basic grilled sandwiches from this person complete with, what I assume, is barely hospitable service.

I feel like that’s kind of a hipster thing? I don’t care for the label, but I can’t argue it sometimes fits.

MiddledAgedGuy, to memes in Air cooling is just better

Water cooling feels unnecessary and expensive. Like most of my hobbies. I don’t get this particular one, but I can appreciate why people might.

I appreciate what he’s done for the FOSS movement.

I’ve read up his commentary about underage women, choosing to form my own opinion. And yeah I find it pretty gross.

Random article I found said about 26% of people in the US use adblocking services. Working on the assumption that’s reasonably accurate, that’s a pretty big chunk of ad revenue.

MiddledAgedGuy, (edited ) to risa in Crystals good, fungus bad

I’m not much of a fan of Discovery, as seems to be the case for many Trek fans. It’s alright though. But this aspect I found myself enjoying. I liked the whole mycelial network angle.

MiddledAgedGuy, to linux in A symptom of linux past traumas

I have no great solution to games that don’t work. Thankfully it’s increasingly rare. And I get wanting to do something just for curiosity’s sake.

There’s PCI-E pass through to hand direct control of your GPU to the VM if you aren’t already familiar, but my two cents is dual boot is less of a pain.

MiddledAgedGuy, to linux in A symptom of linux past traumas

Is there a specific benefit that you’re expecting from dual booting? That tidbit might help us talk you out of it 😁

Seriously, I think a VM is almost always the better solution.

MiddledAgedGuy, to linux in A response to the "Boycott Wayland" article

Just :s/x/w/g on every bit of source code and recompile wscreensaver.

MiddledAgedGuy, (edited ) to fuck_cars in MAY USE FULL LANE

And owning a truck in the the US, I feel, is a status symbol for many that purchase them rather than any need for carrying/towing stuff. So extra pointless.

Edit: And even if so, they don’t need to be so big.

MiddledAgedGuy, to linux in Your chosen desktop Linux defaults?
  • Void
  • EFI and LUKS partition, containing an LVM with root/home/swap. Ext4 partitions. I’m vaguely aware of btrfs and zram but haven’t taken them for a spin yet.
  • ufw
  • wayland
  • basic plasma install + desired apps.
MiddledAgedGuy, to linux in Are older, but Linux compatible computers capable of running the newest kernel/version of various distros?

While one should, ideally, use AMD over Nvidia with Linux. It sounds like OP is shooting for older hardware, so I’m going to assume GPU performance isn’t a significant consideration. Nouveau should be fine for regular desktop usage on older Nvidia cards.

But trouble with assumptions. If you do want the most out of your GPU, AMD is the way to go.

MiddledAgedGuy, to memes in Dirty Scab

Ah, I was only vaguely aware of the writer’s strike and didn’t tie that together. It all makes sense now. Thanks for the explanation. That’s pretty shitty.

MiddledAgedGuy, to memes in Dirty Scab

What’s the problem? Good faith question, not being disagreeable. Does he go on about struggling actors in the documentary? Oh or a famous person using their fame to their advantage?
