Are you saying “some republican voters are good people” or “some republican politicians are good people”?
For the first one, that’s probably true but irrelevant. I think most republican voters are trying to do good with their vote, but they’ve got so caught up in Republican fascism that they honestly think voting red is good.
For the second one, I highly doubt it. They don’t have the cult behavior excuse, so at best, they’re completely selfish, enough to put their job security over the lives of others.
We are sufficiently deadly that in order for something to pose a credible threat to us, we have to make it up and give it powers that don’t exist in reality. And even then, most of the time, we still win.
This is false. We already pose a very real, credible threat to us.
Makes me wonder why they’re actually doing it. How much revenue do they think they’ll gain from blocking ad blockers? Are they doing this for that revenue, or are they trying to tell advertisers that Google ads are a safer investment?
Not true, there’s a lot of differences between a car and a ute/suv. The high, square bonnet of a ute both makes it harder to see pedestrians and makes it much worse when they do hit. Cars are designed to hit people on the lower legs and toss them onto the bonnet, while utes hit people on the upper body and knock them over so they end up underneath a moving vehicle.
Cars aren’t great, but they’re so much better than utes and suvs.
As a programmer, I will very mildly defend VW here. Not at all defending the payment structure (that’s shit and has no excuse other than rent seeking), but the person who had to tell the police they needed to pay likely didn’t have an override button. Something like this just isn’t an edge case that you often think of in development, so not having the option of getting that data out for free is reasonable if this is the first incident.
Lemmy is a community hosted system, and a lot of the user base came here after leaving other platforms (mostly reddit) because of the owners making it worse and worse trying to copy other platforms like tiktok.
And you’re wondering why everyone here has problems with capitalism.
That’s not even mentioning the other huge problems with capitalism.
I fail to see how that equates to “communism good” though.
The problem is that very few people make the decisions that impact everyone on the platform, which ends up meaning “capitalism bad”. Fixing that problem with a system that’s basically owned by users is sort of like making the system communist.
surely most people on here live and benefit from capitalist societies.
Sure, they live in capitalist societies, but do they honestly benefit from it being capitalist more than they would from it being communist or socialist? Are they really better off in a system that inherently increases inequality rather than decreasing it?
