NeoNachtwaechter,

Confirm. That’s Japan. The driver is in trouble when it’s a minute or more

NeoNachtwaechter, (edited )

You seems to love these flat, oversimplified questions :)

(Or why don’t you just ask these millions of people?)

NeoNachtwaechter,

‘Knowledge’ is still so very much overrated.

NeoNachtwaechter,

How it got from there to “let’s use it for everything on the Linux desktop and ditch X” I’ll never understand.

Just because they wanted it so badly… They had 2 fundamental problems with X:

1 - Everybody except the super nerdy nerds confused the ‘X client’ and the ‘X server’ all the time, and thought the naming were wrong.

2 - The networking was hard to set up / troubleshoot.

NeoNachtwaechter,

every Linux distro I’ve ever used for years, desktop and server, has used systemd and I’ve never experienced single problem that those users claim I will.

That means simply that you have never used systemd. You have only used a linux distro.

When you use a car only from the backseat and have some driver driving it for you, then you aren’t going to have any complaint about the engine.

Systemd becomes the more horrible, the closer you get to it.

NeoNachtwaechter,

Some Germans and some Usamericans who had lived in Europe for a while.

NeoNachtwaechter,

I have met several people who moved into Usa during the last years, and they all said Yes very much.

NeoNachtwaechter,

A meme was made out of it, yes.

NeoNachtwaechter,

Genius needs simplicity. But many of these suggestions here lack in that respect.

I like the Jedi Killer.

NeoNachtwaechter,

Whether you call it Ex-twitter or X-twitter, I don’t really care :-)

NeoNachtwaechter,

I have never seen the Truman show (only the movie about it)

NeoNachtwaechter,

You should develop an awareness: When are you ready to fall asleep ‘NOW’? This opportunity repeats about every 20 minutes.

Go to bed, then do your thing, whatever you do while waiting for sleep to come (I read a book). If you recognize that you yawn, then stop immediately with everything that you’ve been doing. Lights off, be still and just let it happen.

NeoNachtwaechter,

it’s like with pets. We can build bonds with them because we learnt to understand each others body language even though we don’t speak the same language

Nice example :-)

I have read that cats use their meowing ONLY when they communicate with humans. Among other cats / animals, they use different languages.

NeoNachtwaechter,

I have eaten it multiple times in my youth. It should be cooked until (nearly) soft. Not at all like cartilage.

Hosting websites over 4g

I have been hosting a few websites from my home server and it has taught me a lot. I have recently had major issues with the electrical storms, Kogan NBN support (Australia), and the NBN network in general. I know 4g is not fast, but I would like to use it so that in the event of a network outage, im not at the mercy of NBN. On...

I know 4g is not fast, but I would like to use it

There was a time when people used to have 2400 bits per second from home (for the youngsters: that is 0.0003M). So if you are doing it for fun, why not.

NeoNachtwaechter, (edited )

You think that you deserve two votes, when everybody has just one? :-)

NeoNachtwaechter, (edited )

Humans slow down over time. Computers slow down over time.

Since we don’t know any more details, I put my $.02 on a cheap plastic router that wants to get rebooted sometimes.

NeoNachtwaechter,

Why does Reddit always

You know that you asking Lemmy here, right?

Do you also ask Porsche what Tesla always does and why? :-) May be a good idea to learn how to ask questions if you want to get meaningful responses.

NeoNachtwaechter,

which is quite overkill for what is needed here.

Not sure what that means, but if you only need samba shares: samba supports many different methods of user auth.

Stalwart v0.5.2 (stalw.art)

We are thrilled to announce the release of Stalwart Mail Server 0.5.2, which brings two significant advancements: the integration of the ACME protocol for automatic TLS certificate deployment and support for the HAProxy Protocol. These features mark a substantial step forward in our commitment to enhancing the security and...

NeoNachtwaechter,

So it has got TLS. Nice.

But what about all the other security features that are required of a mail server today?

NeoNachtwaechter,

I don’t even want the list. I’m just asking if it has them all — or less than all :-)

Proxmox Ubuntu VM has "graphical" console

This is kind of hard to explain, but hopefully it makes sense. I don’t think a screenshot would help because everything “LOOKS” fine. But the characters in my Ubuntu VM console look funny. And I can’t drag my mouse across the text to select it. Nor cacn I right-click. The console works fine, and I can run commands. I...

NeoNachtwaechter,

I have a feeling you’re talking about the TTY.

I got the same creepy feeling.

Like someone trying to talk about fork and knife who has never seen fork and knife before :-)

Tasmota on Shelly Dimmer2 - can I use the two switch inputs for different outputs in HA?

I have a Shelly Dimmer2 flashed with Tasmota. It has two ‘switch’ inputs. I have the shelly installed behind a two-gang switch box with the two inputs connected to two different switches. But currently, if I flip either switch, the same light is flipped (the one connected to the output of the Shelly Dimmer)...

NeoNachtwaechter,

I haven’t tried, but there’s setoption114 for disconnecting switches from output power. And setoption73 for buttons.

It counts for the whole tasmota, not just for one switch. So I guess you want to listen to your own MQTT command for the builtin relay.
