OceanSoap, to lemmyshitpost in I'm 99% sure it's not real

I’m a designer that works with a bunch of engineers and yeah. I’ve got two projects that we had to rush in a two week deadline. Now we’ve been waiting for months on a reply about something. Just waiting.

OceanSoap, (edited ) to asklemmy in what is a parental advice you wish you could give to your father/mother before they had you?

Mom, don’t sacrifice your retirement savings to keep our lifestyle the same. It’s not more important than struggling so hard in your retirement years. Your kids will get used to living with less, we’ll get over any sadness we feel over it, as long as we’re together.

Also, you have a bad case of sunk cost fallacy. You’re going to lose the house over it.

Dad, if you run away from your kids when it gets tough, they are going to be traumatized, and it will come back to bite you when you’re older. Your son especially will want nothing to do with you. Your last years will be lonely enough, don’t abandon the only people who will be there for you.

OceanSoap, to asklemmy in Is Sync for Android worth the cost?

Yeah, people confuse “product lifetime” with “my human lifetime” a lot.

OceanSoap, to lemmyshitpost in Creamy centres

Dude, blue crab? Fucking delicious!

OceanSoap, to asklemmy in What are some works/resources that helped make something difficult/unclear finally click for you?

Khan academy for math, absolutely. Never would have gotten my AA without it.

OceanSoap, to lemmybewholesome in A self-care reminder

Moving the shoulders down is always a great reminder for me.

OceanSoap, to asklemmy in What's something you'd like to leave behind in the old year and not carry into the new year?

Same

OceanSoap, (edited ) to asklemmy in After a lifetime against, I'm considering joining social media. Any advice?

My guess is it’s because potential matches ask.

As a woman, I don’t find it weird, but I do find it unfortunate. It’s an easy, quick way to get a better understanding on if you’re who you say you are. Sure, it can be faked, but… that’s more rare, and mostly easily sussed out.

I like seeing Instagram personally. Not to follow, just as a good check. But if you don’t want insta, I’d suggest pixelfed. It’s not a part of meta and it functions as an instagram.

OceanSoap, to asklemmy in Anyone who recently had a "Yup, it was that kinda day" day. What happened?

Literally my life as a child. my grandma was a hardcore Democrat and my father a Republican. Every year, every holiday, they would get into it until my grandma would start screaming at him.

OceanSoap, to lemmyshitpost in If only it was like that

In Phoenix, can confirm, 100°F dry heat is pretty awesome

OceanSoap, to asklemmy in How do you think social media platforms should work?

I think social media should be 18+ only. In fact, I don’t think anyone under 18 should have phones that connect to the internet at large, only things like maps or whatnot to get around. I think this would solve a lot of fundamental phone addiction problems we’re seeing from our youth.

I also think filters of any kind should be banned on social media. They’re fun, but not worth the damage they cause.

OceanSoap, to asklemmy in What has been the best thing that has happened to you so far?

Yeah, they actually call it The Motherfucker Gene, so everyone else had the same thought, lol.

It actually stands for methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase, which is the enzyme that metabolizes folic acid into methylfolate. Most people have a bit of an issue with it, but mine is like 80% defunct. For example, taking extra folic acid supplements while pregnant would do almost nothing for the baby, because my body just won’t metabolize it. I have to take high doses of methylfolate instead to get the same benefits.

And thank you you! It really has been life-changing!

OceanSoap, to asklemmy in What are your dental hygiene tips and hacks

Gently, cleaning zaps.

OceanSoap, to asklemmy in What are your best flight tips and tricks?

Chug water before your flight, and do you best to board with a full bottle that you keep chugging during the flight. It keeps swelling down.

I used to be a window seat gal, but now I specifically get an aisle seat for any flight over three hours. That way I don’t have to bother waking anyone up if I have to pee.

If you hit some scary turbulence, just remember that planes withstand them. It feels scary, but the danger is due to bags or people that weren’t strapped in flying about. So, grip your armrest, imagine you’re on a rollercoaster and enjoy the ride.
