I’ll go first. Mine is that I can’t stand the Deadpool movies. They are self aware and self referential to an obnoxious degree. It’s like being continually reminded that I am in a movie. I swear the success of that movie has directly lead to every blockbuster having to have a joke every 30 seconds
To understand this you have to know that at the time when “Jaws” came into cinema there were people leaving cinema during the film because they “couldn’t handle it”. There were even newspaper articles about how the movie allegedly traumatized people. The same goes for movies like “The Shining”.
When “The Exorcist” came out people were not prepared.
I guess every culture that came to the conclusion to make some kind of bread at some point in time eventually put stuff on that bread. Like leftovers. The question is, do we call that a pizza… Or is it a flat sandwich or something…
I know this type of scary talk. It also comes up when people talk about assisted suicide. Some people on the fringe believe it would be a good option for addicts, the homeless, etc.
They believe it’s a rational standpoint. In reality they ignore the consequence this approach would have for our society on a psychological level.
Since you are a rational person and not just emotionally reacting, I bet you have a credible source for these blanket statements. Can you name one, please? Because I can’t find even one.
How did Captain Marvel struck you as smug in comparison to the truckload of arrogant and full-of-themselves characters in the Marvel universe? Thor, Drax, or Iron Man who is basically a narcissist.
It wasn’t communists who came up with the idea of that type of building and it’s a common sight in many European countries, for example, which are not communist.
That’s because you ignore everything that has happened in Palestine unless it’s connected to Israel.
It has nothing to do with “Jews controlling the world” or other conspiracy theories. It’s that when you are living in a “western” culture you are more aligned with the culture of Israel (women’s rights, rights for LGBTQ people, at least the hope for democracy, protection of citizens instead of using them as propaganda tools, etc.).
That is why many western politicians and media rather reluctantly call out Israel on it’s war crimes.
Imagine when what many seem to wish comes true and Israel is abolished. The whole area becomes Palestine. Then we will have another country where people suffer under a religious zealot leadership. No rights for women or LGBTQ, no schools that educate their children to become free thinkers, no democracy or working for a better future, etc.
Sorry but that’s bullshit. There are plenty of people who speak out against Israel (for example in Germany, of all places) who still hold their job. So there. Your anti-semitic theory of Jews from Israel secretly shadow controlling all governemnts is refuted.
Btw, when your theory is correct how come the media doesn’t cover the bombing of Israel by Gaza and Lebanon? Most people don’t even know it’s happening.
When your theory is true, how come that UN can be biased against Israel and no one is doing anything about it? The UN found that 40 % of all Human rights violations since 2006 (!) have supposedly taken place in Israel. With competitors like China, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan that raised quite a few eyebrows but no one has done anything about it.
Also, simply to bring in some statistics, there are 16.1 million Jews worldwide. And 9.37 million Israelis. No one cares for this tiny minority unless they are battling extinction again.
What is more likely is that A you wish there was an easy answer, like one side has to be the bad one.
And B you are falling hard for propaganda. Propaganda is one of the only weapons groups like Hamas have in their arsenal. And it’s not just Hamas who have an interest in Israel being gone. Add every other Islamic state into that mix.
Israel doesn’t exist just because of or for Zionists. Or do you propose everyone who was born there but happens to not be a Palestinian should leave the country?
I feel you. Just got my letter what kind of pension I can expect. If it ever happens. Let’s just say it’s not looking good. It does make you wonder why you didn’t just chose a much easier job when the stress and additional hours net you ~100 € more that won’t save you from being meh financially at best anyway.
One friend of mine was lucky enough to get a real good job. He was able to buy property and have a family. The rest of my friend group, we all worked just as hard. But we weren’t lucky so no family or peace of mind for us I guess. It’s demotivating.
You got a lot wrong about how Israel and Palestine were created. And it was Palestine which refused a two state solution several times. That’s the sole reason why they are still not a state. Perhaps they want that now, after they saw that Israel will just continue to grow and snatch land from them. But at least Hamas will only accept if Israel is gone completely.
Israel and Palestine did not exist before and “Palestinian” was an ethnonational name for some of the Arabic people living there, mixed with all the other groups like Jews, other Arabic people like the Bedouins, some Christians, etc.
Since Arabic countries also exiled and killed Jews and of course World War 2, the British Empire thought it would be a good idea to create an official state for Jewish people. And the area (at that time called Transjordan) is the only place with native Jewish people. There were also growing conflicts already then, between Arabs and Jews (and Christians, but they were just moving away I guess).
To find a supposedly fair solution for both major groups in the area the British Empire in their infinite wisdom did what was totally hip at the time and tried to divide the land into to countries: Palestine and Israel.
But you had Arabs on one side who didn’t want an influx of Jews to the area, they wanted all the land and have a Muslim state. And on the other hand you had more and more Jewish refugees and of course Zyonists coming there who wanted all the land and have a Jewish state.
At that time Palestine refused multiple times to agree to the two-state-solution out of greed. And Israel started stealing land out of greed.
Out of guilt and because there are really few Jews on earth the west equipped Israel with weapons to defend against the Arabic countries who didn’t want them there. Israel flourished and some of the Arabic countries thought: how nice to have a rich neighbour in the area. And totally forgot about the not so rich neighbour which were the Palestinians, still hoping to somehow get a better deal for a country.
The problem is that some opinions aren’t just a matter of opinion but incompatible with other opinions. Like everything in morals and ethics.
Some days ago there was an interesting discussion in a thread on Lemmy about whether or not certain moral axioms exist that are objective. Or if all moral standpoints are purely subjective.
On this meta level, we can’t even agree whether those discussions are concerning opinions or objective facts.
In that cases one side would think it’s a matter of difference in opinion while the other would think it’s a matter of someone being uneducated or ignorant, for example.
I think I’ve settled on the latter. Disagreement is maybe best communicated by the absence of an upvote? And downvotes work best when they signal something that is just off base, and while not reportable, is not appreciated at a broad cultural level.
Does the thought of the person, that you plan to downvote, crying themselves to sleep make you happy? Then you should downvote them. I think that’s what they wanted to say.
What is your unpopular flim opinion
