PonyOfWar,

The word “AI” has been used for way longer than the current LLM trend, even for fairly trivial things like enemy AI in video games. How would you even define a computer “thinking on its own”?

PonyOfWar,

Something like 100k€ would enable me to do all the traveling I want to do and simultaneously save up enough money for a comfortable early retirement. Currently I’m focussing more on having a job that isn’t soul-crushingly stressful and full of overtime though.

PonyOfWar,

Many of them, but one show that people sometimes nag me about is “Friends”. Not going to watch it either, doesn’t seem even remotely worth my time.

PonyOfWar,

If I go to bed early, I have to get up and pee at some point during the night. And since it’s way too cold, I’ll usually lie awake for half and hour before I can actually get myself to leave the bed.

PonyOfWar,

Droughts, hurricanes and theoretically earthquakes. Last actually disastrous earthquake was about 700 years ago though, so I dont worry about those. Last huge hurricane was in 1999. I haven’t really prepared against natural disasters in particular, though I do have some food and water stockpiled.

PonyOfWar,

That’s fair enough, though I do think there are a ton of interesting medieval topics he still could have covered. I’m the kind of guy who likes watching multi-hour essays on ancient civilizations though, so I might not be “general audience” and he moved pretty much in the opposite direction of what I like to watch. Finding his second channel was what sealed the deal for me though, couldn’t take him seriously after that.

PonyOfWar,

Never would have called him a favorite of mine exactly, but a channel I used to watch was Shadiversity. Had some interesting videos on medieval life and castles. These days he seemingly only does “let’s test this wacky weapon” videos and has a terrible second channel where he whines about “woke culture”.

Boring answer, but probably Middle-earth/Arda. Just such a well-crafted world with deep and interesting lore.

Runner up would be Bas-Lag from China Miéville’s books. Very unique, somewhat Lovecraftian steampunk world with many weird inhabitants.

Mostly a joke. There has been some actual speculation around it though. What with it going through all the motions of a Disney story, but not having any originality or a coherent plot.

PonyOfWar,

Is this the first AI generated movie or something?

I mean, we already have “Wish”…

PonyOfWar,

No, I like them. They bring some variety to landscapes. Many people here hate them though.

France certainly has a social problem, with immigrant-descended populations often living precariously in crime-ridden banlieues, relatively isolated from the “indigenous” French people. These are great conditions to breed extremism.

But I’m not sure you could go so far as to say that there’s really a terrorism problem. Of course any terrorist attack will be a huge thing in the news, but looking at the bigger picture, it still happens rather rarely and France is overall a pretty safe country.

PonyOfWar,

I’ve initially considered getting the ad-free version, as I did buy it for Reddit Sync, but so far I’m not getting any ads in the free version anyway.

PonyOfWar,

I have one a drinking water one in the basement. When I’m in the basement, it’s fairly audible, otherwise can’t hear it at all.

PonyOfWar,

Earliest one I can actually put a date on is my first day of kindergarten. I remember the other kids doing some sort of crafting project outside. Other memories may or may not be earlier, hard to tell.

PonyOfWar,

Indeed, though Lovecraft has the distinction of being pretty racist even for his time.

PonyOfWar,

HP Lovecraft - great writer, horrible racist

Similarly, Orson Scott Card - Ender’s game and its sequel are great, but he’s a raging homophobe.

Because religion provides comfort, community and a meaning to people’s existence that goes beyond “we were born of chance on an insignificant rock somewhere in the universe”.

(I’m not religious BTW)

A few Motorola and Sony phones as well as the Fairphone still have them as well.

PonyOfWar,

I have a Rheinmetall one from around the 30s that only half-works. It spends most of its days in the attic and only gets brought out to show people once in a while. I used it as a prop for a short film once, so I guess that was my favorite use for it.

PonyOfWar,

I have a hard time picturing how a “return to nomadic tribes” would even work. How would you turn a densely populated country like, say, the Netherlands, into nomadic tribes? The planet could never sustain 8 billion people living as nomads. Not to mention, it wouldn’t stop war or conquest in any way. See the Mongols, Scythians etc.

Areas with lots of city states have historically been hotbeds of war and chaos. Ancient Greece or the HRE constantly had tiny states squabbling. It would also make large infrastructure projects much harder. Building a highspeed railway line through Europe is hard enough right now, imagine the same thing but instead of 5 countries, it goes through 50. It would also be a mess to get any unified environmental policies through.

So no, I don’t think either option is realistic or desirable.

PonyOfWar,

I’ve kind of stopped caring about the gift-receiving aspect of christmas in recent years. So I mainly look forward to the family Raclette dinner on christmas eve and meeting some old friends who come home for christmas.

PonyOfWar,

Smallest percentage I got was top 1% for Yellow Magic Orchestra. 192k monthly listeners.

You can already do that. That’s one of the basic features of Lemmy. For example, my account is not from lemmy.world, but I can comment here. Looking on your profile, you’ve also already commented on lemmy.ml posts.
