Six months ago lemmy was infinitely better than reddit in that regard. It’s gotten worse because people from Reddit are here now, and brought their idiocy with them.
If a person sees something they’ve never seen before, and turns around and flees, that’s a problem with them being sheltered and pathetic, not a problem with the new thing they haven’t encountered before.
It’s like arch except it doesn’t break all the time. And it has a great hardware and kernel utility, and still has access to the AUR. And I like pacman a lot better than apt.
there is no point in doing it yourself from scratch.
Learning. The point is to learn.
You don’t have to learn everything that way, but you understand things a lot better when you’ve built them from scratch, and that underlying foundation enhances the entire knowledge stack.
Yes really, if your job requires lots of calculations you’d be stupid not to have one, even back when they were expensive.
Every machinist I know, even the crusty old ones, carry a calculator in their pocket. It’s indispensable. Why wouldn’t you carry one if you need it all the time?
And yet my point stands: if you need to do a lot of calculations at your job, you’d be stupid not to have a calculator in your pocket. And if you don’t, then the time it takes to find a calculator will be negligible.
People can down vote you, but they can’t argue with this.
You must be the only pickup driver in existence that’s figured out that all your pathetic justifications can be debated, but your opinion on what you want cannot be.
He said Ubuntu 16, I believe the Amazon search fiasco was in 2012. He simply hasn’t been using Linux long enough to know that Ubuntu used to be good. His baseline user experience is probably gnome 3.
So he’s comparing extra-shitty Ubuntu to shitty Ubuntu and saying it didn’t used to be shitty.
Just do what Leo does and date some random teenage Instagram model.
I doubt those relationships last long or are fulfilling, but I also doubt any celebrity marriage is fulfilling and there’s a lot more baggage involved.
This is what happens when people have a basic knowledge of history and basic background knowledge of their field of expertise.
That’s not to minimize their intelligence and competence; that’s to say that it is expected that astronomers would know the names and histories of major nearby celestial bodies.
