James Randi, the guy who came up with it, was literally a climate denying pedophile
I’m unsurprised that someone born in the twenties with an identity built heavily around being skeptical of anything without a lot of concrete evidence, a stage magician whose whole thing was being angry about psychics, mediums and the like defrauding people would require extraordinary evidence to believe in climate change.
Especially given we’ve been 10 years out from irreversible catastrophe since the 70s, according to various high ranking UN officials with positions related to the environment/climate. When that time passes, releasing a new statement claiming it’s another ten years out and pretending the previous one never happened. For someone like Randi, that’s got to set off the same bullshit detectors that religious leaders predicting apocalypse do.
I’d never heard the claim he was a pedophile before though, at least not outside the same circles accusing him in hushed tones of theft, tax evasion and being a Communist. Got a decent source on that one?
Even ignoring the likelihood of being murdered, illegal drug arbitrage is going to be low margin for the amount of risk involved. Most of the profit is with the manufacturers and distributors.
This would get messy with inheritances. So if you own and a family member passes away, you’d have to either move into that home for two years or it would be worthless to sell? That’s going to create some perverse incentives regarding old folks and housing.
Related to why someone under 25 might own a rental unit.
Also, would this apply to non residential rental properties?
The number of people using Firefox plus ad blockers must be quite small
Hmm, apparently either it’s not fully spread to all users yet, or AdGuard + MalwareBytes gets around it automatically. Of course, I also run Anti-Adblock Blocker, Bypass Paywalls Clean and Sponsorblock so it could be one of those stopping it from bothering me either.
Not just the Midwest - there was one weather station in WV that was reporting a colder temp than one of the stations in Antarctica for a bit earlier this week.
I mean, that is the crux of the OTs. There’s a reason they tell members that it’s dangerous knowledge that will literally kill anyone who sees or hears it before they’ve been prepared by scientology. Anyone who claims to know and isn’t an OT is clearly lying because they are alive, so the silly alien soul story is clearly a lie until you’ve been brainwashed enough.
Could be, but like countries that use the words “Democratic” and/or “People’s” in their names, just because you call something by a word doesn’t necessarily mean that word is accurate.
Often “diversity, inclusion and equity” in practice means doing things that would rightly be called out as sexist and racist but targeting the “right” sex and/or race.
Isn’t that literally just a thinly veiled Futurama reference? Like, there was an episode where planet Express was sent out to fetch ice from Haley’s comet to dump in the ocean to combat global warming which fails and they end up just pushing the earth farther away from the sun to cool things down?
The origin of that phrase is ironic, given how it’s used. It originates from a USENET post from the late 90s by what was essentially a proto-MRA referring to a woman.
I could see applying it in that direction today still, if talking about certain domains, like conscription or basically anything tied to the criminal justice system, or services for the homeless or victims of abuse.
If I give money for an endowment that supports future replacement of electron microscopes, that does fuck all for your tuition.
Presuming of course that they absolutely weren’t going to replace those microscopes without that endowment. If they were, then that endowment frees up some money elsewhere in the budget. Unless literally every penny they hold has strings attached, then the fungibility of money means they could use general fund money they aren’t spending on X because of an endowment on Y instead.
If I remember my chemistry right, chlorine trifluoride would like to have a chat with you. It’s such a powerful oxidizer that when burned with oxygen, the oxygen is actually the fuel rather than the oxidizer.
But then this is the stuff that the Nazis decided was too dangerous to use as rocket propellant, then decided it was too dangerous to use as a chemical weapon.
