I feel this, but it’s only one kid for me. Three must be insane. Most days I look forward to something intended to occupy that free time, but like you I’m always wiped or experiencing a headache by 8pm or later. So I’ve gotten back into reading. Low energy, comfy, can do it on bed. Except now I open the book and am nodding off between sentences. Falling asleep easier than ever, but doomed nonetheless.

What exactly is going on in the background of the Death Star there? Are those windows? People working late night office jobs? Are those just a bunch of lit panels going beep-boop? Is there some technician who glances up at them occasionally and goes “Ah, shit. The samouflange (what the fuck is a samouflange?) is out on the megacondenser! Rob, could you please run a parse on panel A5D and get that boy blinky again?” and Rob is like, “You’re right, Michael. I hardly noticed.”

EDIT: Apparently it’s Cloud City. I recall this now. I’m honestly shocked that everyone has been so civil about this.

People out here downvoting the implication that this is an artifical image. AI or poor photoshop, this is shaping up to be a real reddit moment.

There is definitely some interesting things happening here. If not AI, it’s definitely showing characteristics of being artificial.

Stalinwolf, to mildlyinteresting in "Do you live in the Midwest?" by self-report
@Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca avatar

“It is called the Midwest because of the location of those states in the 1800s before the U.S. expanded to the Pacific Coast. These states were part of the Northwest Ordinance. This term became obsolete once the U.S. expanded westward, resulting in these states becoming the Midwest.”

Another site defines it as West of the Mississippi River, but between North and South. So I guess it qualifies.

Stalinwolf, (edited ) to hobbit_art in gandalf and bilbo by Specter / Beau (amoebeau)
@Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca avatar

Every time I attempt to read The Hobbit, I feel as though my brain is going crazy flipping between the various portrayals of Bilbo. I would prefer to invent my own Bilbo, but my brain settles on a slightly younger version of the Fellowship of the Ring Bilbo. Unfortunately, that same brain also likes to pull up the Martin Freeman version, and occasionally the goofball from the old animated film - sometimes even the Helpful Vancouver Vet, which you will surely understand if you’ve ever laid eyes upon that gentle soul.

Now, I would be fine visualizing Freeman it I didn’t absolutely fucking hate the portrayal of the dwarves in the most recent Hobbit films. I can’t get those nightmarish faces and choices of facial hair stylization out of my head. And this terrible cycle perpetuates every time a character’s name is mentioned throughout the novel.

I’m sure I have a deeper issue going on psychologically, as I struggle to just let it be and enjoy the book for what it is. But as it stands, this is an ongoing problem.

I live 3,000 km from where I grew up, and sometimes it blows my mind that if I step out to my street and touch the asphalt, I’m touching the same continuous structure that’s connecting to my parents home in a seperate country, on the other side of the continent.

Stalinwolf, to asklemmy in I need to survive for 3 days without pooping, and eating as little as possible. I can pee, but not very often. It can't take up too much space. What food do I pack?
@Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca avatar

Holy shit. Alright, so naturally I have to ask if it's possible to eat just what you need to survive and still remain somewhat healthy. Or are you slowly withering at this point? What's the middle-ground here? How long can a person survive on just the bare minimum before their body becomes too weak?
