Equally, I don’t think Anakin would have lost his shit on Mustafar if he didn’t look up and see Obi-Wan standing at the top of the ramp in the ship like an utter bad bitch.

I have been laughing at this comment for the past 8 minutes

Stamets,
@Stamets@lemmy.world avatar

I sort of forgot I made that comment. Thanks for the reminder. Have deleted.

I’m not looking to cause drama here in any way whatsoever. I’m not looking to upset people or cause confusion or anything. I stand by what I said in the welcome post on /c/TenForward. We just have a different moderation philosophy than Risa and wanted to go about making the community in a different fashion.

No drama. Just a difference of opinion.

I’m Canadian too. Here’s the absolutely batshit thing. They do have it down in the states but they don’t call it Kraft Dinner. To them it’s just “Kraft Mac & Cheese”. Their boxes just say Macaroni and Cheese with a Kraft brand on top of it. They actually have to distinguish between boxed and baked mac and cheese…

Nah, what’s weird is for you to openly lie and make shit up for no reason.

He made $320,000 over a 7 year period.

Stamets,
@Stamets@lemmy.world avatar

So you have no sources other than what you think?

Yeah I’m going to stick with the documents that were shown in legal proceedings, thanks.

@Stamets@lemmy.world avatar

So… again… you have no sources other than what you think? Either offer sources that back up your claims or stop making comments that are immediately proven false.

I also did believe that they could because I misread something. That’s on me and has been edited. Next time I would also recommend trying to correct someone by acting like an adult instead of whatever this behavior is. Sorry about the mistake but you really could have addressed that with a very different attitude.

Lastly, the actual issue is a misrepresentation on how much lost revenue Nintendo gained from this man. Piracy is a factor. It is not the driving force.

Stamets,
@Stamets@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah it’s bad… It’s gotten to the point that I have unironically said “Wait! Where are my subtitles? I can’t hear without my subtitles!”

What is your unpopular flim opinion

I’ll go first. Mine is that I can’t stand the Deadpool movies. They are self aware and self referential to an obnoxious degree. It’s like being continually reminded that I am in a movie. I swear the success of that movie has directly lead to every blockbuster having to have a joke every 30 seconds

Stamets,

I like The Last Jedi.

That should be controversial enough.

It’s the “create post” button. You post the thing. It gets the upvotes. Brain makes the happy chemical and then I feel less sad.

Granted it doesn’t prevent you from getting sad from other things.

Stamets,
@Stamets@lemmy.world avatar

No. Honestly, I’m not but it is whatever. Think I’m gonna take a break from Lemmy for a couple days.

Have talked about how I lost my best friend a couple weeks ago over on Mastodon. Before finding that place, he was the only other person in my life who was a Trek fan and who liked Discovery. Moreover, he was positive. He had opinions of stuff he didn’t like but he focused on the positive. We both liked each other for that reason. In a world with so much negativity and hatred and bitterness, it was nice to be able to enjoy something together. However we both did shy away a lot from the Trek communities because of the often toxicity that brews against newer Treks. If we were online and encountered it, we’d go to one another. Talk about how silly other people were. How they claimed to be huge fans of Star Trek but often neglected the lessons of the show and wanted to be angry all the time. Couldn’t enjoy things for what they were and they certainly couldn’t let other people enjoy them.

He’s dead now and can’t say or do anything. They can. They’re still around.

I’m finding it really hard to deal with a lot of people online without him. So much negativity and it’s like the port that you’d shelter the storm in is suddenly gone. Just being tossed on the waves, drowning and being terrified and not having any light or anyone around.

Yesterday was just… not a good day. Nothing specific. I was just having a rough day and acted like a fool. Then me and my idiot self decided to post this meme about NuTrek and for some stupid reason I hoped that it would be positive this one time. Just once.

I’m tired of having rogue waves fling this vessel with reckless abandon.

I’m tired of feeling hopeless.

I’m tired of the reminders that he’s gone.

Tired of sitting here like a fucking idiot and crying over fucking internet comments because I’m too emotionally unstable to cope with anything. It’s the internet. People are always going to fucking suck. I shouldn’t have expected otherwise and I shouldn’t have posted this thinking anything else would happen. Also certainly shouldn’t have done it when my only crutch is gone.

It’s whatever. It’s my fault. I’m just being stupid. Sorry for whining and i’ll be back in a few days.

Star Trek directed by someone who doesn’t like Star Trek. There were a lot of people on those movies who really loved Star Trek and it showed through. They’re not the best, that’s for sure, but I still like them for what they are. However I will say that Beyond is definitely my favorite. Might have something to do with JJ not directing it at all and it feeling like an interesting mix of a TOS episode and Kelvin timeline action/adventure.

Also Idris Elba.

Don’t forget the fact that he was aggressively homophobic and refused Gene’s wishes to depict the HIV/AIDS crisis in multiple episodes or even have a gay character on the show, including blacklisting a script about the crisis titled Blood and Fire. Not to mention shooting down the Garak/Bashir connection that both actors actively wanted and refusing to allow Malcom in Enterprise to be gay despite his actor also specifically playing him as gay.

Then there’s the fact that he aggressively tore Denise Crosby’s badge off of her shirt on her last day then lied about it on Twitter saying that she ‘gave it to him’. Or the fact that he’s the SOLE reason that Tasha Yar’s legacy is being forced into sexual slavery for a high ranking Romulan. Or that he constantly fought with Marina Sirtis about her contract as well. Or that he forced himself on a ton of writing credits just on the off chance that someone might potentially sue him. Or the fact that he was micromanaging everything to do with DS9 and only got worse with Enterprise. Or the fact that he fucking breathed this morning.

Fuck him.

Unfortunately, the article also says Brent Spiner is a big defender of Berman.

Data wasn’t perfect. Why should Brent Spiner be. That being said, that’s a hell of a character flaw…

I don’t mind the Kelvin movies too much. Actively enjoy them for the most part. But JJ was definitely the worst part of those movies by far and I completely agree with the meme. You can feel the love of everyone bleeding through despite him, not because of him. So many people worked on those movies who were huge fans of Trek and then he has the nerve to openly talk about how he isn’t a fan of Star Trek.

Beyond is my favorite of the Kelvin movies and, what do you know, JJ didn’t direct it. Funny that.

I like knowing i’m talking straight into the mic

The microphone was not designed to be talked straight into it like that. It was designed for someone to hold the phone like a human. The mics are designed to help pick up audio from the direction of your mouth when your phone is in the normal position, not the one you’re using. By attempting to maximize efficiency and talk into it, you’re actively making it worse for the other people you’re talking to.

Imagine taking a meme seriously

Honestly given all the shit I’ve been dealing with the past couple of weeks, yeah. If a disembodied flaming skull appeared at this point I’d just be like “sigh alright. What now?”

@Stamets@lemmy.world avatar

What’s wrong with that?

Because it’s insanely inconsiderate and extremely egotistical. You aren’t the only person in the world. We’re both watching the movie and we’re both equally as confused. When you ask those questions what you’re doing is interrupting the movie for someone else to demand an explanation for yourself. An explanation you will not get as, again, both of us are confused. Other people are watching the movie too. Interrupting it to try and get answers for yourself is some narcissistic behavior, especially when you’re in a movie theater with shitloads of other people around you.

Moreover, during the middle of the movie is not the place to have a discussion. People are trying to watch it and enjoy it, not listen to some breakdown about the events so far. If you want to have those discussions then keep it for after the movie when attention can be properly given to the discussion, not a half whispered response in a tone of “Dude, can you shut up?”
