if nothing else qwant has a good map, based on openstreetmap but with a vector renderer and with tripadvisor integration so it’s really easy to find restaurants
i’m rather convinced that stuff like ADHD and autism was at least co-opted by evolution (if not outright created by it) because tribes with a certain percentage of it had an advantage.
For example ADHD seems great for foraging, that provides the stimulation that is desired and the ability to completely lose track of time is pretty nice to stave away boredom from trudging through the forest for hours on end;
and autism is pretty obvious in how a defining feature is having special interests that you LOVE doing and get extremely competent in.
I myself have autism and i have no doubt that in a hunter-gatherer tribe i would have been having a blast creating tools and stuff like wicker baskets and trying to improve them as much as i can.
idk, i went from chugging coca cola and eating fast food almost every day, to only drinking sugar free soda with meals and most food being home cooked, and it honestly wasn’t that big of a change. Same thing goes for getting more exercise, most people can absolutely ditch the car most of the time and instead ride a bike.
I think it largely boils down to knowledge, people have completely wacky views on what is healthy and not, they never learned to cook for themselves, they don’t understand that a diet change has to be sustainable (crash diets don’t work and make you feel terrible), and they haven’t learned how to change habits like what you eat.
The upshot of it being a lack of knowledge is that we can just… inform people about it.
If home ed. and PE classes were improved kids wouldn’t grow up to view exercise as some miserable thing, they’d know how to cook tasty yet easy meals and thus have less reason to turn to junk food, and if we had information campaigns about the fact that electric bicycles exist we could get tons of people out of cars and onto bikes where they get some actual exercise and fresh air.
honestly it’s kinda starting to seem like human history was 50% shaped by wanting to get zooted out our minds with the lads, and 50% wanting to turn the child-eating monsters in the woods into thin red paste and decorate our homes with their bones.
there’s a hypothesis that agriculture was straight up invented because we wanted more grain to make beer.
was about to say, the reason bulk sellers don’t really work here is because a lot of people just shop every other day or so, if not straight up every single day.
weekly grocery shopping just sounds absurd to me, so much more effort than just popping by on the way home from work or just living close enough that you can bike there in 5 minutes.
i honestly don’t get why people refuse to let their dogs be on furniture like sofas, like either stop spending so much money on furniture or start cleaning your dogs paws, depending on the reasoning behind not letting them up.
like do they not want to cuddle with their pet? why have a pet then??
