I did not like the constant tonal shifts between silly magic frat boys and depressing magical apocalypse.

Trees are great on sidewalks, but it is much easier to control the weight of an algae tank if you want to make a green roof for a building.

If there are no users, there will be no new contents added.

If there are a lot of users (many more than there are now), there will be enough people around to support all sorts of niche communities, like Reddit had.

Ideally, the user should search for “books” communities and the top result should be the largest/most active community. If they don’t like that community, they can try the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th result to see if they are better. Unfortunately, the Lemmy sort algorithm needs a lot of work.

TAG,
@TAG@lemmy.world avatar

For the communities I have searched for, both “Hot” and “Active” sort are bad (the main community about a topic is barely top 5, no other relevant results at the top of the list). When I switch to Top Year, I start to get good results.

Except even on Reddit we saw large communities split due to some issue (for example r/questionablecontent and r/QContent, one has 13k and the other has 5.3k subs).

Assuming you merge instances, how would moderation work, especially if mods cannot agree on rules or interpretations? What about instance specific rules? Would a post be moderated by whatever instance the OP posted from?

If the mods have to agree on rules, you have the same exact asshole mod problem but now with extra name squatting.

Having to crawl through multiple menus to order is not that big of a deal for restaurants. They don’t value your time, they value their staff time (because they have to pay for it). There is probably very little ongoing cost to double the number of order kiosks while every additional human taking orders needs to be paid minimum wage. The restaurant owner watches with hate as their money slowly melts away while you decide if you want pickles, fried onions, and jalapenos on your burger.

Sorry to poo poo the wholesomeness, but you should not be selling your possessions to buy an engagement ring. You should be buying a ring that is within your income to afford. An engagement ring is definitely one of those “it’s the thought that counts” purchases. If it is not, that is a massive red flag.

What is your unpopular flim opinion

I’ll go first. Mine is that I can’t stand the Deadpool movies. They are self aware and self referential to an obnoxious degree. It’s like being continually reminded that I am in a movie. I swear the success of that movie has directly lead to every blockbuster having to have a joke every 30 seconds

Ryan Reynolds has one character that he plays in all of his movies. It is a character I enjoy seeing, but it is the same character over and over.

I would call it a suspense thriller, not a horror film.

How much time do you spend looking after your garden? In my area, I would need to water the garden occasionally (if there is not much rain), figure out a pest mitigation solution (I don’t want to eat squashes half eaten by rodents, weed the plant bed, etc.

I know all this because my father took up gardening as a retirement hobby and quit after a few years because he did not want another full time job.

I watched it and I did not like it, but it is probably that I went into it with the wrong expectations. The entire premise of “musical about a zombie apocalypse” sounded a bit goofy to me and the trailer had the same mood, so I expected a comedy, or at least something a bit tongue in cheek. Instead, the movie is a total downer.

Were you playing an ice level of Chip’s Challenge?

It's funny how google pretends the music on YouTube isn't straight up piracy and everyone just goes along with it

Most people have extremely weird ideas of what’s considered piracy and what isn’t. Downloading a video game rom is piracy, but if you pay money to some Chinese retailer for an SD card containing the roms, that’s somehow not piracy. Exploiting the free trial on a streaming site by using prepaid visa cards is somehow not...

YouTube pays the uploader, who double promises that they totally have the the right to the song.

Those are still half height cube walls. It is a bit more privacy, but still has noise isolation issues. I miss head height cubes.

Which items/products were you once able to get from local shops on a whim that you now more or less have to order online?

Sometimes I find myself shopping for things that I’d prefer to go out and get within the same day, but now I’d have to order and wait a few days to get…So I’m wondering what some of those things may be for you?

I have not been able to find decent jersey knit bed sheets since my local Bed Bath and Beyond closed down (and it was one of the first locations to go).

I can get some at Walmart or Target, but they are not going to be soft and will not last long. I have tried to order online, but even purchasing from a big name brand, they ended up lower quality and higher price than Walmart.

I have had luck with Home Goods, but their selection is always a bit of a gamble.

As an older fan, because historically, dubs were utter crap. Until about 20 years ago, only kids anime got dubbed and when it was that version would be edited and censored. Some companies would also put out a parallel uncensored release and if one was available, it would be subs only.

Even when you started to get older teen anime dubbed, the voice casting tended to be pretty bad.

Not even the Google search team. You can no longer negate search terms in Google or Bing or DuckDuckGo. Any suggestions for a better search engine?

TAG,

Serious question, why not? Do they produce some harmful flicker or something?

Who said that these anime ends after one season? Many times, they have a cliff hanger ending because the producers were hoping to get a second season or they are a faithful adaptation of the first part of a manga that is only half finished.

As far as I know, many Americans don’t even own a stove top kettle. If they need to boil water, they do so in a saucepan.

Dentist hate this one little trick… because it is not actually as good as flossing. Floss picks tend to have a very tight piece of floss. It is good for cleaning the surfaces directly between your teeth, but not the curved parts of the teeth.

I hate regular floss (or rather sticking my fat fingers deep into my mouth), so flossing sticks are better than nothing.

Great for walking the dog at night, in suburban or rural settings. A phone flashlight is annoying to juggle while also controlling a leash and impossible when I need to scoop poop.
