Same as you don’t learn woodworking when ordering a table from Ikea, or learning medicine when going to a checkup.
Maybe I'm different than most, but I DO wonder how that table is made, and I do try to educate myself on how the medicines I take actually work. There's been times I've wasted almost an entire day binging Wikipedia.
I'm not saying I have in depth knowledge of fields outside my own, but I do make an attempt. Like, I'm not a gearhead at all, and I only care about cars being able to take me to work and back. But I do know how internal combustion works, and I have a general understanding of the components of an engine.
C: "Lemme just accept anything the user gives me, write beyond the input buffer, glitch out, and start executing whatever the fuck the user injects in there."
Still a decent language though, but like an oxy-acetylene torch, it's powerful tool, but you better know what you're doing.
I usually just disable all this useless eyecandy shit. I like seeing the raw boot messages scroll across my screen. Let's me know early if something is fucked.
Welcome to the longest technological journey of your life of both incredible frustrations and the most awesome rewards once you push through and get the hang of how things work. I am a 21 year long user and I still learn new things almost every day. If you're the kind of person who gets off on bashing your head against a wall all night and after almost giving up finally solves the problem and gets a huge burst of euphoria from it like a drug, then Linux is definitely for you.
I don't tend to sugarcoat it like a lot of other established users, I am not going to lie to you. You WILL encounter this at some point ;)
Am a 41 year old dad who grew up with Quake, Doom, and Unreal Tournament, and now have a 12 year old son who is also growing up on games. The boomers who didn't have a clue are dying. Those were OUR parents who didn't know diddly squat about gaming, not this generation's parents.
30 will be here a lot quicker than you think. I also used to think 30 was old AF when I was 20.
Now I'm 41 and I don't know how it happened so goddamn fast. Every year, I get more and more anxious about trying to get shit done before my time comes.
Would be kind of hard to play a game that didn’t get published by the evil capitalist lol
I've played about a dozen versions of Tetris over the last 30 years, a lot of which were written by just one dude and released to the world without the expectation of compensation. There are literally hundreds of ports/clones that run on everything from a Nokia phone to a Unix/Linux text mode interface.
Were it not for western publishers, I'm pretty sure it would have spread anyway just due to its addictive nature and it being an excellent time sink. Just like chess and checkers didn't need a capitalist to spread around the globe.
I'm literally using an entire operating system right now that not one capitalist controls. It runs most of the internet's infrastructure. Sure, the capitalists can use it and even contribute, but they don't get to dictate how you run your system.
