Lots of people are treating this like you would go back in time and get a do over, rather than being de-aged.
I’m assuming that de-aging would roll back any age related aches and pains, but not affect my memory, other than possibly making it better. It would give me more energy, so I’d be overweight and young instead of overweight and old :D
I’d take it at around my late 30s to early 40s to get back to my late teens to early 20s. My body was fully developed, so I wouldn’t have to go through puberty or have too many teenage hormones, and I’d have enough energy to get in shape again.
If it de-aged me by putting me back into my body from the time, then it would be when I was 42. 22 was when I was in the best shape of my life, and before I picked up a few long lasting injuries. I found out in my early 30s that I’ve got a chronic illness too, and it hit me hard.
I’d get the doctors and dentist to work on the health issues that I didn’t know about when I was young, and stop them from becoming serious, and generally get healthier.
Most importantly, I’d take my kid out and do all the things that we haven’t been able to do together :)
I have an old laptop that I want to use to replace the “smart” features on my living room TV. Can anybody recommend a distro and setup which could act like a dashboard / remote control setup?...
Any distro should do it, you just need to set your media centre software to run at startup. I’ve done it with Plex and Kodi, and I think Jellyfin does it too :)
I’ve always dealt with names like eth0 and eth1 in the past, but now I’m only getting enp2s0 and enp5s0. I assumed that it was something that had changed over the last few years that I hadn’t noticed, but I’ll look into it further. Thanks :)
This isn’t a “go back in time and assassinate” someone question. It’s just their musical career never takes off and thus any music they ever would have made is no longer in this timeline.
The time between pop up ads / excessive ads and ad blockers being introduced wasn’t that long. You’d get some annoying banner ads, but the intrusive ones were quickly blocked.
Being able to tell how much food you need in advance would be better, so that instead of thinking that you’re really hungry and piling your plate, you only buy or prepare as much food as you need. That would cut down on food waste too.
How can I search x1337 probably I’m after Tigole and Silence releases for QXR but each time I search for something I don’t get results why? Do you have other alternatives?
Try searching for qxr and filtering from there. Find a result from one of the uploaders you like, click their name to see their uploads, and save the page as a bookmark for next time 👍
There have been times when I’ve been browsing All and the feed is full of bot spam. It chokes off engagement here and pushes people back to Reddit and the other bot spamming communities, like Hacker News.
If it was in small doses it wouldn’t be as bad, but there are times when there are dozens of posts in a row from a handful of communities.
I know that I can subscribe to the communities I like and browse from Home, but that’s no good for newcomers to the site, or for people who prefer to use All. You shouldn’t have to manually curate your feed to avoid the huge amounts of spam that’s designed to take you away from Lemmy.
I think someone just misread what the article says and missed the ‘not’ in ‘need not be expensive’.
You’ve missed the second part of that sentence - ‘UNIX can run on hardware costing as little as $40,000’. The photo is the Finnish hacker making it work on a computer that cost a fraction of that, while drinking a beer. It’s a play on the hold my beer meme.
There’s an extension for Firefox and maybe Chrome that should help. I think it’s called ClearURL, or something similar. It removes the trackers from the ends of URLs
EDIT: That’s assuming that it’s a legitimate tracking URL, and not something that’s been added by malware.
They just hijack the link that someone else posts and replace it with an entirely new tracking link with a l.facebook.com domain
This bit confused me. I thought OP meant that it was the same link every time. The downside of text based forums like this - it removes a lot of nuance and leaves room for misunderstanding.
The only reason I didn’t mention it is because it’s for copying links, whereas the extension should do it while opening, without needing to copy it first.
What would you suggest is a better distro for a new Linux user? I’ve found Mint to be great out of the box, and only needs minor tweaks if you want the Microsoft fonts, for example.
Strangely enough, you’ve made me realise that I haven’t for a while. Not a deliberate thing, it’s just that everything I’ve bought in person recently has been with a contactless method.
That’s a good point. I could be in the restaurant for an hour trying to order, and as long as there are other kiosks available, it wouldn’t make a difference to them.
All of those things are cleaned before being consumed. The touch screen menus are one of the last things you touch before touching and eating your food.
The world may not be a clean room, but that doesn’t mean that I’m going to deliberately interact with someone else’s faeces, especially when I’m about to eat.
There was an article published last year, maybe the year before, where they tested the touch screen kiosks in McDonald’s. Every single one of them has traces of faeces on it.
Even if that wasn’t true, it takes me significantly less time to tell someone my order than to scroll through however many sub menus the restaurant has decided to put their food into, and then select the options for each item and add it to my basket, then check out.
You have a magic pill, which de-ages you by 20 years. You can take it once in your life only, so long as you are at least 20. What age — past, current or future — do you reckon is best to take it?

Hi all :)...
If you could go back in time and stop any one person or group's musical career, who or what would it be?
This isn’t a “go back in time and assassinate” someone question. It’s just their musical career never takes off and thus any music they ever would have made is no longer in this timeline.
