Wogi, to movies in Henry Cavill's Highlander reboot is moving forward with John Wick director at the helm

Remake movies that had good ideas and poor execution, or visa versa. Don’t bother remaking movies that are already good.

Actually don’t bother regardless. Fuckin Hollywood can’t get much right these days.

Everyone will do that once, people with executive dysfunction will do it all the time.

Device recognition instead of passwords, using your phone. A number of apps already do this and logging in is painless even with a shitty old remote.

It will eat them FOREVER

I don’t think there’s anyone who can read who thinks the only use for a PC is gaming my man. I don’t think other uses need to be pointed out

Wogi, to memes in Paradox how could you

This is the number one reason I haven’t bothered with Linux.

I literally only use my PC for gaming.

You win a prize. You have to go find it though. Two hints, it’s at the store and I haven’t paid for it

It’s really bad for anyone who needs to move out of a house they can barely afford.

In 2008, people that had multiple properties they were buying and selling were financially crippled when the market dropped out from under them.

This happened even to middle class people who were buying cheap housing and selling it as their only income. At the time, housing was still affordable enough that upper middle class people could make a living doing that.

No one who had a house they planned on staying in for a long time, who kept their job, felt that crunch.

Very much like a 401k that takes a hit when you’re 30. On paper you lost money but in reality you’d never notice. The market always bounces back.

At least, until it doesn’t. 😬

Your rent is more than my mortgage, and while it’s not a very fair comparison, I live in the Midwest and housing here is cheaper, you’re still paying 5-7 times as much per square foot as I’m paying. So let’s balance it out, even if my costs doubled I would be paying half what you’re paying per square foot.

And yeah, over the next 15 years I’ll probably spend 10-15k in repairs.

I’m still spending significantly less per year.

That’s not to say you’re a sucker. Renting works for some people, some times it’s the only option you have. I have a stable career in a city I have no intention on ever leaving. If both of those things aren’t true sometimes it’s easier to rent.

You’re still paying for those repairs, you’re paying the taxes on the property, if utilities are included you’re paying for those too. Your landlord is absolutely not cutting you a deal on any of that stuff. The difference is you’re paying monthly, and upfront, and the difference goes to your landlord. Your landlord is also charging you enough they even after all of that, he still makes a profit.

I’m paying all at once when it’s needed, and I don’t spend anything extra, well at least no more then my wife demands, lol.

Wogi, to memes in Your wildest fantasies come true in the holodeck

Because it gets boring after a while. You start itching for real adventure.

It’s the entire reason Starfleet exists. It’s a bunch of holodeck junkies who’ve burned themselves out on fictional fantasy, now they have to go around the universe looking for the most dangerous shit imaginable just to feel alive.

These guys have burned through two hundred years of fiction in the holodeck, which is why you see them going through stories that hit public domain 40 years ago to us

It’s why no one was really phased by Tasha’s death, except for maybe Data and he basically lives in a holodeck simulation.

They beam down to planets completely unprotected and nearly die every week! Send a scouting party first? What, and let them have all the fun? Hell no send the senior officers, they’ve been at this long enough they deserve a good death.

Worf gets his ass handed to him time and time again, not because they’re good at fighting, but because it’s more challenging to lose first.

At one point everyone gets their memories wiped and Worf talks his way in to being Captain. I’m convinced what actually happened was everyone was bored that week and they all just played ‘yes and’ until it got interesting.

Because the holodeck has spoiled their sense of adventure

Wogi, to asklemmy in Will human societies always enshittify themselves?

The problem you’re describing has been described countless times before. Plato talks about it at length. It’s literally the basis for 1984.

So, the answer is yes.

The good news is, it’s part of a cycle of revolution and enshitification. Things get bad, the masses decide they’ve had enough, and strike back, things get better for a while, until they follow the same path they did the first time, and the cycle repeats.

But.

Every time it happens, things get a little worse. The relentless march of time and enshitification will gradually consume the planet, until human civilization collapses entirely. Maybe in our lifetime, maybe in 200 years, maybe in a 1000. But some day, all we’ve built will come crashing down around us, because while each individual may have foresight, society does not.

That’s a funny way to say “Israel has continued to fire at defenseless civilians”
