Nothing new, but it’s still a privacy centred search engine, but, same as Google search, whose engine does it use, puts advertisings, related to the search at the beginning of the results. It’s annoying but not put in risk your privacy. You can check it by yourself, with Webkoll, UrlVoid, Blacklight, etc. There are no cookies, trackers, logs or other profiling crap in Startpage. Anyway there are a lot of other search engines out there which you can use, Whoogle, Andisearch, AstianGo (default search engine from the Midori browser, a FF fork, but better, FOSS), Mojeek, Qwant, MetaGer, DDG, if you have little children, the 100% family save Swisscows, if you want planting trees or support social projects, use Ecosia or Good search. All of these protect your privacy and don’t log your searches, nor track you. Sponsor ads, or context based, like Startpage has, instead on surveilling or profiling, to create incommings, are not a privacy or security issue, server costs money. If you want to avoid it, you must use a selfhosted solucion or trust a public instance (Whoogle, SearX) or use a search engine which recieve a commision when you buy something online (Andisearch) or similar methodes that do not compromise your data.

To avoid are Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc, which make money with surveillance advertising, logging your search and profiling you to sell your data to advertising companies, this is a risk and lack of privacy, not the other

I don’tknow, I don’t use Google search since many Years. The nearest I used are Startpage and Whoogle, but currently Andisearch, Mojeek, AstianGo and sometimes MetaGer.

That what I mean. Companies often do not even bother to optimize the games, in order to sell them as quickly as possible. “Works? Ok, let’s start next, our CEO’s Ferrari needs a repair.”

I love The Dark Mod, it shows what it means to make a good Game, above it’s OpenSource and a game for years.

That is the point, there are a lot of crappy games in Steam and min sys specs of 8 GB RAM free, even for messi sidescrollers. Fortunately there are exceptions, mainly in somewhat older games, where the devs still had to score with quality and playability on the PCs of that time, such as the aforementioned TombRaider series at that time or the DarkMessiah, The Dark Mod that does not need to hide from many commercial games either, and others that prove that even a crappy laptop that cost me €350 can be used to play them with more than 30-40 FPS and without taking up more than a few Gigs.

Also a good source of free games is the IT Academy DigiPen, wich offers a huge catalogue with hundreds of games of any kind, the best works of the students as free download. Some of these also in Steam, search DigiPen there. games.digipen.edu

Sure, but just like in this game, procedural generation is used in many other games. even currently. The art is to find a balance between space savings and system performance. This is not the problem, because too many times they overdo it, both one and the other, often using prefabricated models to complete it with new characters, environments and plots, which look more and more similar even though they are different. companies. Nice graphics but zero originality and linear plot. Optimize it? Why, when it works in their company computer? Fuck the user, if you want to play, buy a bigger PC, period.

A simple command line in AutoGPT can be enough, as proven with ChaosGPT. But I am more afraid of human stupidity than of AI, it is this that is going to destroy us.

It isn’t, the only bad thing of the Netherland are the drivers with caravans on the motorways and roads in the rest of the EU, ah, well, maybe their beer 🤢

Zerush,
@Zerush@lemmy.ml avatar

Well, maybe, anyway the French beer is way worse. Best beers you find in Czechoslovakia, Germany and also in Spain
