I see. It’s been a while since I last used Latex in college. Back then Kylyx was still in it’s infancy and I anyway had a established workflow with Makefiles. It seemed to me back then that the steady progress in user interface of Latex tools (like Kylyx and etc.) would be enough to make it more accessible.

Just like you have great coding IDEs nowadays with AI code completion helpers, something similar could be done for Latex. Incremental compilers for Markdown allow you to see changes in real-time in some editors, would be nice to have something of the sort for Latex. With these two and a context sensitive syntax helper (Clippy, but not annoying), and you have a killer solution. And one that is backwards compatible with all the tools that have been developed for Latex in these past decades.

acockworkorange,

Seems a bit early to declare an end to Latex then. According to you some use cases aren’t supported. What isn’t open source about it?

Don’t get me wrong, Latex has lots of weird quirks, and you made it sound like there were a few obvious options to replace it. But Typst doesn’t look like is ready for prime time.

“This might even affect my retirement!”, exclaimed a CEO.

acockworkorange,

Not a laptop, but I replaced my old laptop with a micro PC from minisforum EM680 and I’m very happy running Linux Mint in it. If you tend to use your laptop on the same spot, it’s a great way have a more performing and ergonomic PC for the same or lower price.

I can power it from my monitor, so I can have only one cable at the desk. Bluetooth and wifi working out of the box.

At any rate, I suggest you stick to AMD graphics as they have native open source support.

acockworkorange,

I know Tennessee has no income tax so maybe states with income tax would rather sit and watch first?

acockworkorange,

I see. I got nothing, then.

acockworkorange,

I have seen some with Embraer jets. They are really nice. They don’t make really big planes though, it’s basically just regional flights.

acockworkorange,

Hadn’t even seen it before you pointed it out. That’s staying 😁

acockworkorange,

Always use a condom to interface your bare metal and windows.

Believe it, bub. In backwater places like Brazil people have moved on from credit and debit cards to fully digital systems like Pix. Meanwhile my town in Tennessee will take only cash or cheque for taxes.

acockworkorange,

Btrfs is data loss prone? OpenSUSE Tumbleweed uses it as default, I assumed it was good enough.

acockworkorange,

Oh no. What happened? It’s been ages since I’ve used it.

acockworkorange,

Well, we did have plenty of engineered items before having the proper physics theory to explain what was happening. Physics does a whole lot more than simply enabling engineering to do more. It’s the basis of our understanding of the universe.

acockworkorange,

She approaches Riker levels of pansexuality.

acockworkorange,

It’s interesting you chose to abbreviate Singapore as Sin Gapore instead of Singa Pore.
