andrew_bidlaw, (edited ) to linux in Linux holds more than 8% market share in India, and it's on the upward trend
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

Do you think the government itself is involved here, or is it just volunteers? Did it occur to fediverse? I think here you are talking about reddit, right?

I’m not Indian and all I’ve seen lately are news about how bad their ecological and ethnic situations under Modi are. I’ve heard of something named like r/chodi, but mostly from drama write-ups. What’s the scale of brigading we are talking about?

Dammit. Are you on Windows? I can drop some pirated Acrobat for you to try.

600 seems like an overkill, maybe you can try to add a 100 at a time?

andrew_bidlaw, to privacy in AI Generated CSAM Is Out of Control
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

Creating, collecting and sharing CSAM is in the law already. There are orgs and agencies for tracking and prosecuting these violations.

It’s like fighting against 3d printers because you can make yourself a diy gun, a thing that have never being possible before because we got all pipes banned from hardware stores. The means to produce fictional CSAM always existed and would exist, the problem is with people who use a LMM, a camera, a fanfic to create and share that content. Or a Lemmy community that was a problem in recent months.

It’s better to ensure the existing means of fighting such content are effective and society is educated about this danger, know how to avoid and report it.

andrew_bidlaw, to movies in Suggestions for movies and TVseries that (attempt to) criticise the super rich?
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

I watched it like 7 times and wish you have a great time with it.

Coming from an oil-rich region I passed these soviet oil-pumps looking like hammers, coming up and down, up and down in any weather. They left me curious what’s that all about and I almost ended in that industry, but got something else on my radar.

I came to appreciate how good Eli at being a competition to Daniel here. The first time I saw this movie, the ending seemingly came from out of nowhere. But now I see and like how both of them represent different ideas. Eli is the old, conservative America, and Daniel is the new one, the face of the industrial revolution.

After watching it another time with my friend, I woundered, where it all came from. It seems, he escapes any question about his past, but he feels pretty connected to that blonde girl (his son’s future wife), that’s said to be beaten by father. Maybe it’s a little clue he’s too a victim of violence at home. Him them digging the earth alone and then dragging himself across the desert with a broken leg seems like a logical conclusion to that. He needs to be perfect, otherwise he’d be beaten hard. And so he goes for that, and hate, suspect everyone who is not as tryhard as he. The end scene speaks a lot of his hatred to himself. He’s alone in his mansion, and he sees himself both a rich guy and a piece of shit. That leads to being a fucking asshole to his son who has a slight possibility to even compete with him, it leads to a conflict with Eli. He hates this always happy dude. He hates the hell of him. He wanted him to suffer for so long time, but at one instance needed him to get an oil transit, and received these silly slaps. And he remembered that, and brought his hatred tenfold. He couldn’t forget this embarassment to his ego, and he punished him as he wanted. He first made him destruct his faith, and then make it physical. He couldn’t, in his depressive condition, see his happy preaching face anymore. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d eat a bullet right after that for all that hatred collected in him.

The phone number is the best way to ID user across different sources of data. Facebook created datapoints for those who aren’t even on Facebook, but are in some users’ phonebooks. In my country you get a SIM-card only with your documents, so alphabet agencies have an even better idea who are you on the web.

It’s all just scam that pushed without any conaideration for our convinience.

You caught me without pants as I just left one desktop for another and lost my collection I torrented from rutracker (most of it is abandoned anyway). I remember Goetrik and Fenix being a funny series of books, and from the lore books something called Black Library (?) published great in-world books, including a very cool medievally stylized manual for inquisitors.

Guess it’s their site: www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-40000

I can produce a magnet link to both if you are interested.

I get it. It’s just I don’t see any dev-put images in many big apps, besides a logo and a welcome screen. Updating them with dozens of megabytes doesn’t feel okay. It seems like there’s some bloat, or a vault management problems. Like in some seasonally updated games that put dupes to speed up load of a map or easily add new content on top of them instead of redownloading a brand new db. Some I followed shawed off tens of gigabytes by rearranging stuff.

Like, messengers. I don’t get it how Viber wants more than 40+ mb per update having nothing but stickers, emoji already installed and probably don’t change them much. Cheap wireless connection could allow them to ignore that for some reason and start to get heavier in order to offload some from their servers, for many images are localized. Is that probably what their updates are? Or they consequentially add beta patches after an approval, so you download a couple of them in a close succession after they get into public?

Drafts (Connect’s feature) are saved as long as you don’t leave a thread.

Individual upvotes and downvotes aren’t shown on Lemmy as a whole. I only know you can see them under posts and comments on kbin.social (another network), but I don’t know if they have them collected somewhere on a profile page. Guess it puts more strain on servers hosted by volonteurs.

Visited posts are tracked cleint-side. Afaik it isn’t implemented anywhere.

Saved posts work tho.
