ya, it was a first for me. cops around here often don't stop for pedestrians in a crosswalk until after a car runs 'em over.

i guess my age will show a bit here, but it's public radio that's on whenever i'm in the car. when there's kids along, though, it's usually soundtracks to their movies (yea, those. and i don't really mind--i like 'em too)

i got a cat toy one year instead of a computer mouse. my mom thought it was hilarious.

we have an old manual that's used occasionally as a prop or 'instrument' in local productions and concerts by schools, community groups, etc.

donkey's brows should have been inverted.. as he would be, of course, 'the vulcan'.

the og a&e/nick (when it was a shared channel) used to be what the family room tv was tuned to for 'noise' when no one was watching.

cable is still the cash cow for companies that own content, have networks, and streaming services (comcast, disney, etc), who cannot apparently make a profit off their streaming services. imagine that, selling your content on the open market made more money than locking it all behind your own paywall.

i actually burned a cd yesterday.. a boot disk for a utility.

only to find the system i needed it for didn't support legacy boot, and the boot image didn't have uefi support.

i had to take out an audio cd to burn it.. so yea, cd do get used here.. occasionally. probably been a year or more since that audio cd had been played.

sounds like you need a dog to be your poop buddy. you guard for them when you're out on walks, they stand guard for you in the can.

Black Friday (files.mastodon.online)

alt textthree rows with a barbecue on the left and William Wallace in Braveheart on the right. In the first row, captioned Wednesday, the barbecue is labelled “$899.99” and Wallace says “hold”. The second row, captioned Thursday, depicts the same. In the third row, captioned Black Friday, the there is a label with...

there's a couple decent deals on basic laptops.. that aren't shit-tier specs, either. that's about all i've seen--but then, i haven't been "looking" either. rent keeps going up, can't afford anything so i don't even bother to look at ads and sales on things that aren't absolutely essential to simply exist.

i do plan on going to wm on friday.. but later in the afternoon--for a few groceries.

that 'designated distro' for newcomers used to be ubuntu. probably still is. as much as i'd want to say mint or some other variant of ubuntu or debian that i happen to like.. 'one man shows' and distros with very small teams aren't what a new user should be going with. there's a reason why so many base off ubuntu. it's big. it's solid. and it just works.

keep doing what you're doing; if you need to get whatever runs in windows out of a vm and on 'bare metal'--get a separate system for that and network the two to share files, if needed.

a combined openoffice project would be different than what it or libreoffice is today.

ares35,
@ares35@kbin.social avatar

onlyoffice is what i use, on linux and windows.

i think that the libreoffice people should have re-joined openoffice once their main gripe (oracle) was out of the picture, which wasn't long after they split-off and released their first forked version.

have a manjaro desktop (with cinnamon) at the office that gets used daily. haven't seen this here.

that 1pm commitment is going to get extended, maybe a break 'for lunch' at 5-530pm, but pick right up again at 630p, and be an 'all nighter'.

good thing i can't afford such extravagant luxuries as a cpu with more than 8 cores. never would have affected me.

ares35,

debian's repo is massive. there are holes here and there from time-to-time as is likely the case in any distro--paid updates or not.

If you love piracy you should consider voting/joining your local Pirate Party (pp-international.net)

From wikipedia: “Pirate Party is a label adopted by political parties around the world. better to support via votes, funding, spreading-the-word, and volunteer efforts, than to label oneself a 'pirate' (or anything, really) on voter registrations, which are public data here. i'll stick with "independent" on that form, tyvm.

'drop rates' are the same thing. 10% chance doesn't mean you will see it drop if you run a mission or defeat that boss ten times.
