I’ve been running HA for a while, and it’s been working well; I haven’t had to change much in a few months. That being said, it’s fun to tinker with it, and I’m curious to hear what kind of automations the rest of the community is using. What automations are you most proud of? What are your favorite? What kind of...

brygphilomena,

I have mostly kasa switches too. I don’t like that they don’t expose the motion sensor in them to HA.

For fans, I’m considering these to replace the ones I have that just don’t work. inovelli.com/…/blue-series-fan-switch-zigbee-3-0?…

The ones I have are complete shit. Their firmware seems to lock up regularly and not even the buttons work. There is no reset button on them, so the only way to restart them is to flip the breaker. And half the time that doesn’t even work.

Proxmox HA, Docker Swarm, Kubrenetes, or what?

I’ve gotten to the point where I have more than a few servers in my homelab and am looking for a way to increase reliability in case of an update. Two problems: 2 of the servers will be on Wifi and one is a Synology NAS. I can’t do any wiring but I can put together a WiFi 6E network for the servers only, That means buying 4...

brygphilomena,

Consider power line adapters instead of wifi.

brygphilomena,

Yes.

Societal issues like crime would be greatly reduced if people were able to live with relative security regarding housing and food.

Hobbies and recreational activities provide significant mental health benefits. If everyone was able to afford housing, food, and some recreation we’d have a massive shift in this country.

I’m not even saying working particularly hard. Everyone seems to need a job and they don’t all have to be back breaking hard work to earn these things. Mcdonalds and Kohls aren’t prestigious jobs, but shouldnt those workers deserve to know they have a roof over their heads and food on the table?

I have a Dell server with 12 disks ranging from 12 tb to 22 tb. I’m looking to replace it with a supermicro server that can hold 36 disks instead. It runs unraid so I can upgrade dissimilar disks easily.

brygphilomena,

Life is a highway Remember me Turbo lover (I played a lot of GT3 a-spec)

brygphilomena,

In Newport Beach, in the sand next to the ocean. Sex on the beach kind of sucks, sand gets places that aren’t so comfy and it’s really abrasive.

At a playground, right out in the open at night.

At a friends house in their living room while they were upstairs watching a movie.

In a hot tub a few times and it always sucks. Water does terrible things to the natural lubrication.

In a random church parking lot after going sledding up in the mountains.

In the back seat of my car in many, many places.

Then when I got a new car, I no longer had a backseat, so in random parking lots we would fuck on or against my car.

I’d fuck pretty much anywhere and everywhere, I’m an exhibitionist and enjoy the risk of people seeing us.

brygphilomena,

This is how I feel.

I would much rather have a single machine running vms which I can easily snapshot and back up rather than a dozen small machines I have to deal with power supplies and networking.

SBCs have specific use cases, usually where they need to interact with hardware. That’s what made the rpi so great with it’s GPIO and hats. But that’s a rather small use case.

brygphilomena,

I thought acme or certbot could handle the DNS entries with an API call to your DNS provider.

It may require another plugin though. Googling some variation of certbot acme automate DNS challenge will give you a dozen tutorials.

brygphilomena,

Is there a particular reason you are keeping your DNS there?

brygphilomena,

Fair enough, just throwing that out there as an option to move DNS somewhere that does have API access for certbot to use.

Van Oak Props. He had some very cool, very intricate builds that were a lot of fun to follow along with.

Now that there are sponsored videos, those videos are somewhat short, almost half assed builds just to use the sponsors product. The quality in his videos and the props he makes have gone down.

PC died. Trying the legal options.

And fuck. I really miss plex. I’ve had Netflix and Hulu forever as family won’t let me cancel. Decided to sign up to Paramount + for some Trek. Twice in lower decks it didn’t save my watched episodes. Doesn’t mark episode as watched if you exit during the credits. And multiple playback issues....

brygphilomena,

Ombi or Overseerr (I prefer Overseerr) will let them do requests automatically. Overseerr uses Plex logins so you don’t need to manage additional passwords for them.

brygphilomena,

I flunked out of college. I was undiagnosed ADHD and my major was something that I genuinely have a passion for. But wasn’t able to discipline myself to go to classes regularly. I don’t think I would have done well in that field anyway.

It didn’t really hurt me though, I ended up in a job that underpaid for too long until I got proper medical treatment for my ADHD and depression. Now I make a decent salary in a field that works well for me.

I love what I learned and would love to learn more, but the structure of college was something that was extremely tough to work through.

brygphilomena,

But that smell hits different. It’s what they use on Pirates of the Caribbean at Disney and partly why it smells the way it does.

brygphilomena,

No matter how “sexy” it may look in porn and movies. Sex in a hot tub sucks. The water kills all lubrication.

brygphilomena,

Jack Antonoff has some incredible talent. He’s written and produced a lot of iconic pop music.

brygphilomena,

Not unusual here.

It was when I was living in California though.

It’s bad, sure. But it’s not as bad as people make it out to be. I always join in when I convince people to drink it for the first time.

brygphilomena,

Those damn chickens ruining light truck imports.

brygphilomena, (edited )

We also need to get rid of the chicken tax

[Discussion] How do you feel about age verification on Porn sites? (lemmings.world)

Porn sites Pornhub, XVideos, and Stripchat face stricter requirements to verify the ages of their users after being officially designated as “Very Large Online Platforms” (VLOPs) under the European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA)....

brygphilomena,

I’m getting flashbacks to Counter Strike. It’s been a long time since I’ve thought of sprays in games.

brygphilomena,

I’ve got a decent kit from rhino USA. But I don’t think the brand makes a big difference.

brygphilomena,

Turns out you people didn’t actually purchase it.

I wonder if anywhere in the “purchase” terms they included “while Sony holds the license to distribute.”

I hate that “purchases” people make are restricted per platform. If I “purchase” a specific title it should be available on any and all platforms that serve that content. No one should be asked to purchase it on Sony. Apple, Netflix, Amazon, or whatever other shitty streaming service comes out.

As much as I think nfts are fucking retarded, this could be one of the few cases where that stupid digital receipt might make sense.

brygphilomena,

Regular watch. Other than my phone, I tend to want less technology on me.

My go to is an old Casio, the same one Dennis Nedry wears in Jurassic Park. It’s super weird seeing how expensive this watch has become on eBay.

brygphilomena,

Music, various places. Dropbox and several random devices.

Movies and TV I don’t backup. I can “rip” them all again if I need to, and have done on multiple occasions. But backups would be costly with the sheer volume I have. 170tb of s3 block storage is expensive, and so is additional cold hard drives to keep it all on.
