Braces on adults are common enough that most people don’t care. There are options like Invisalign, ceramic or clear braces, and lingual braces (brackets behind the teeth) that you can ask about. If you work somewhere with a strict dress code you might want to stick to clear and white colored rubber bands, too. Though outside of that, people still won’t care and colored rubber bands are cute.
Mine is people who separate words when they write. I’m Norwegian, and we can string together words indefinetly to make a new word. The never ending word may not make any sense, but it is gramatically correct...
“Do you mind …” has been mis-answered for so long that yes means no. It’s hard to explain because written down, yes/no have different meanings, but when speaking to someone it depends on tone, context, and body language.
“Do you mind if I take that seat”
“No” “Yeah” depending on tone can both mean, “I’m fine with you taking that seat”. Most people will add on to make the intention clearer like, “Yeah, go ahead” but not always. Absolutely crazy.
If it’s a big company then keep your ear to the ground, find out if there’s another team or department you’d like to work in, and talk about it with your manager. Be patient. Big companies have a lot of benefits and it might be worth waiting for a position to open up.
If you really want to work somewhere else then apply outside of work hours, don’t just quit. It’s easier to find a job when you already have one.
Legit though. I got my finger slammed in the car door but luckily it didn’t lock like that. I could see bone. Even theoretical, thinking about the door locking makes me panic a bit.
If signal gets the new username feature, this just might be what i do, so fricking tired of people just blindly giving random apps and websites their contact permissions and they get my contact as well, and there’s nothing i can do about it
Add some love to it. Put it on a plate, add a sprig of whatever, eat with a fancy fork, whatever it is that makes you happy. It’s a little gift of love to yourself. Soon after living on my own I realized I could eat whatever I wanted out of those big wine glasses. So… I did. Juice, yogurt, cereal, mac and cheese. I liked how it looked and it was a small thing that made my day brighter.
To be honest, “The great thing about being Jewish is I don’t have to hate my daughter for being herself” would be so much fun to say. I know it wouldn’t end there though.
Yeah it’s never worth it. I have ultra religious family too and the mental gymnastics they do to defend their prejudice is baffling. I have so many shower arguments that will never see the light of day.
Same for me. Very few of my aunts and uncles are by blood. I didn’t think twice about it growing up. My close friends and I have the same relationship. Love isn’t a finite resource and chosen family is an extension of that.
I guess it depends. The easiest thing would be making it inconvenient to get in the room for no perceived reward. Maybe it's a known room but everyone thinks it's empty/unimportant and it's blocked by an obstacle (boulder, waterlogged door, etc).
If you're going to introduce higher technology or magic, then a lock would make the most sense. Maybe it's opened by someone or it could even be a time or situational lock.
If there's high incentive to get into the room, then there's a couple options. You could make people believe they already accessed the room when the real room is hidden. It could be impossible to enter - no door, difficult material, catastrophic event that moved/blocked it, or even everyone knew of the room but doesn't know where it is now. You could make social deterrents. Maybe there's a superstition around the room, a religious indictment, security personnel, etc.

What would be the best way to protect a room from unwated visitors in a low-tech fantasy world?
I need this for a book I'm writing. A lot of people know about the existence of the room I'm talking about, but almost nobody has access to it.
