const_void, to linux in HP Elite Desk

I’m worried about the HP firmware-bios thingy. Does it call home?

It’s for these kinds of reasons we should be demanding open source firmware from major vendors or only buying hardware from vendors that already have open source firmware (System 76, Tuxedo, etc).

I’m always for more software but Linux has editors locked down pretty well already :)

Plus their computer is probably still running proprietary firmware

Are other distros not serious? I don’t understand what this is.

Yeah, that’s incorrect. System 76 is producing machines with modern CPUs that use coreboot:

Coreboot would be nice, but it doesn’t seem feasible yet…

Why not?

I wish more computers shipped with Coreboot these days so we could avoid these kinds of proprietary firmware inflicted problems.

System 76, Framework or Tuxedo. Ignore the people telling you to buy a 10 year old Thinkpad.

There are way way too many testimonials here lately about switching to Linux or installing Arch, etc. These aren’t interesting.

How many AUR packages do you actually use? It’s mostly Electron “apps” anyway.
