empireOfLove,

Instead let’s stay here till 2:30a playing dumb video game, become sleep deprived, and hate my entire existence in the morning even more than I already did

empireOfLove,

oh god oh fuck

what if i can’t tell the difference???

Are movie and show file sizes more efficient than they were years ago?

This may be a stupid question, but I just got back into pirating some shows and movies and realize that many of the QxR files are much smaller than what I downloaded in the past. Is it likely that I am sacrificing a noticeable amount of quality if I replace my files with the smaller QxR ones?...

empireOfLove,

Licensing, probably. H.265 is very not open and you have to pay the MPEG piper to actually use it.

empireOfLove,

This is it. If you know where you downloaded from and can match up the file names, just put the movie in the downloads folder (or point your torrent client at the folder containing the movie when adding the torrent). It’ll do a piece-by-piece check then start seeding.

empireOfLove,

A modified file will not pass the original torrent file hash integrity heck, and trackers will not consider a torrent with a modified hash as “the same”. So the bittorrent protocol is actually quite resilient against an injection attack.

Literally nothing to do with putin, and you’re in the wrong community. Bad spam account.

Edit: stop editing the title 500 times moron

empireOfLove,

Yeah but that would go against the hexbear narrative of “neo-USSR good because communism, anything western-adjacent is imperialism bad”

Nuance, or frankly any political intelligence, is not their strong suit

empireOfLove, (edited )

No one on hexbear likes Russia in its current state.

Meanwhile in this thread by hexbear users: “nothing Russia is doing is that bad, they should just become citizens, stop hating on russia”

For “not liking” Russia imperialism, they sure spend a lot of fucking time apologizing for Russia’s imperialism. We can hate multiple despotic shitholes at the same time, they are not mutually exclusive.

Adjusting SMPS output voltage (discuss.tchncs.de)

Does anyone recognise these power supplies? They’re cheap AliExpress led drivers and I want to change its output voltage to around 22V from 12V. I’ve read that the way to do this is to adjust the REF voltage on the IC that controls it. It’s a KA3845 but I don’t understand where that reference voltage is regulated. One...

empireOfLove, (edited )

Considering there is what appears to be a fixed-stepdown 12 volt AC transformer on the line side of that board, I’d be surprised if you will change anything higher via IC’s.

This may be switch-regulated for rectification and line voltage correction but it definitely does not look modifiable.

empireOfLove,

Meanwhile me, who is behind so many layers of badly configured ISP NAT that there’s no way anyone knows exactly what computer is downloading what: 😈

most coherent hexbear meme creator (it makes less sense than a lobotomy victim)

empireOfLove,

you may have weird cache settings that is storing large amounts of the torrent data in memory. this is not inherently bad- reduced disk IO hits extends disk life and increases performance, unless your system is memory constrained and it’s affecting other programs.

how are you viewing memory usage? virtual memory pages and true physical memory usage can be displayed very weirdly on a lot of linux systems

empireOfLove,

Based off this incomplete thread official integration is desired but not yet complete. Sorry didn’t look into that first.

Try SoulSeek

Random thought: Windows is largely successful because of Piracy

Windows as a software package would have never been affordable to individuals or local-level orgs in countries like India and Bangladesh (especially in the 2000’s) that are now powerhouses of IT. Same for many SE Asian, Eastern European, African and LatinoAmerican countries as well....

empireOfLove, (edited )

They still do. There’s so much shit in Windows 10/11that could phone home and shut down your install if you don’t have a valid license, but Microsoft doesn’t actually give a shit if you have a license or not. They just want to make sure you have their botnet installed and not any other OS.

It stopped working on any of the sites I ever bothered to use it on anyway- most of them wisened up to the crawler bypass and simply made a 2 sentence tagline visible to crawlers that hit the SEO terms, with everything else hidden. Soooo nothing of value lost and Capital comes to claim its pie once again.

empireOfLove,

HD graphics 4000 can barely run Minecraft let alone skyrim. I think you’re getting what you’re getting.
Crank literally everything to minimum.

Its technically running.

empireOfLove,

Please do. An unsubstantiated reddit thread does not a story make- but the more people we get to look into it, the more likely someone will corroborate it (or not)

empireOfLove,

Ahhh. Going after Russian services of course.

Knowing the German government I’m not terribly surprised Hetzner was forced to comply quietly. But still, if they’ll do it for one user, they’ll do it for everyone. Really sucks.

empireOfLove,

Realistically nobody’s going to expend the legal effort to come after owners of accounts on a site unless it’s very illegal content like CP. however it’s still a very smart idea to compartmentalize snd keep separate email accounts for different services so that it’s both harder to build profile on you, and also less likely to lose All Your Everything if one of the emails is compromised.

At what size of transistor does semiconductor manufacturing become practical for independent manufacture?

Currently, only one company in the world – ASML – has the technological capability necessary for the creation of photolithography machines which are sufficient for the production of modern semiconductor devices. What I’m wondering is at what point does semiconductor manufacturing become practical, or even feesible for...

CMOS silicon logic can be chemically “printed” using photolithography and commercially available mercury lamps. From the wikipedia article, if I read between the lines those are good down to feature sizes of about 1 micron (1.0µM or 1000nm), limited of course by the accuracy of your wafer setups between processes and the printing of your lithography plates. this is the process used to produce the Intel 80486 which fit 1 million transistors on a chip. seems that laser lithography using KrF lasers can be good down to much smaller but your litho plates become the limiting factor.

so, conservatively- 1µm features would be attainable for a sort of “home brew” startup with little to no venture funding but the correct industrial knowledge. with more funding though i’d guess older laser lithography machines would be attainable on the used market and potentially usable down to 0.4µm or smaller.

Just reinstall it via Microsoft official iso maker. Anything newer than Windows 8 will attach license keys to the hardware (motherboard) and it usually picks the activation right back up.

If not use the msguides.com kms method.
