DEAD ACCOUNT. Lemmy.one does not have active administration and I need to move on. Catch me over at dbzer0: lemmy.dbzer0.com/u/empireOfLove2

Yet another Reddit refugee from the great 3rd party app purge of 2023. Obligatory fuck /u/Spez.

empireOfLove,

Lemmy and other federated systems being spread out across individual instances does make things more difficult. Normally you could just do “site:reddit.com” and automatically filter all results to be from Reddit. But you can’t do that because your result could be on any one of hundreds of instances, many of which do not have “lemmy” in their title.

It appear reasonably large instances like lemmy.one have been indexed, i got results using site:lemmy.one. and for those larger instances, they should still be able to index federated content.

What would you call a monarchist government where multiple families rules in turns?

I’m making a fantasy novel. In this one there is a monarchy system, where 4 families rule in turns. After the current monarch dies, the next family in the circle most present an heir from their family to ruse the nation until they die and then the next family takes the throne....

empireOfLove,

As a lemmy.one user with disabled downvotes, I’d like to know too.

I’m guessing that they simply don’t get counted by the disabled instance if you downvote from an instance with them enabled. I’ve seen some trolls here (during the exploding-heads debate, for example) post some obvious garbage in a very active thread, yet never leave +1.

How safe is it to eat raw eggs?

I wanted to try a japanese dish called tamago kake gohan, it’s basically raw eggs mixed with rice. The problem is that I’m scared to get salmonella from it. Do you guys think it’s safe to eat them? I’m currently living in Brazil. Also, I saw this article telling that the brand I buy my eggs from is exporting to Japan,...

empireOfLove,

Eggs can be pasteurized- aka heated to kill off bacteria such as salmonella - without cooking them. From a quick Google, in the US and Japan it should be standard to make this dish with such eggs as to be safe to eat. I can’t speak to Brazil’s food safety standards though- the chances of using pasteurized eggs could be a lot lower, however if it’s a Japanese export/import, Japan takes such safety very seriously, so it’s likely to be safe.

empireOfLove,

Hmm.

I do quite a bit of parametric modelling and I see how something like this could be made. Find the angles of the sun at specific times, project planes at a fixed distance and angle matching around your cylinder, sketch the time number you want on each plane with a fixed pitch and then project-cut back through the cylinder. Would be a pain in the ass though. And a pretty tough 3d print without soluble supports, given all those tiny tiny interior walls and cavities.

empireOfLove,

Show me 100 users, and I will show you 100 interpretations of the "perfect" website.

There are endless annoyances and inefficiencies in every user interface. They're unavoidable. And yes, Lemmy is still largely in it's infancy and has a lot of irritating bugs to work out. But you just have to learn to work around them as best you can.
