explodicle,

How do you think they can better address the problem of abusive users from other servers?

explodicle,

There’s no more r/ENLIGHTENEDCENTRISM?

explodicle,

That wouldn’t work on Lemmy because one can make infinity user names on an instance without CAPTCHAs (or any other throttling).

And even then, Reddit tended to allow a lot of trolling.

explodicle,

So why doesn’t the “offending” server just ban them itself?

explodicle,

Even then, they’re trying to help you.

explodicle,

I’ve noticed a couple “it’s because they defederated the servers filled with trolls”. Federation is bad for numbers, good for user experience.

explodicle,

Did you find this out by asking them?

explodicle,

This must be after all that stuff. Without the billions, he’d look like the stereotypical basement neckbeard.

explodicle,

OMG I didn’t even notice your username until just now!

explodicle,

The liberals in government need a little help, we should all unionize too so they won’t have to focus as much on worker’s rights. Like even shut down the rails if we need to. They can become the moderate option to keep things running.

explodicle,

Onion routing (like Tor) is the default for the Lightning Network. Every crypto that supports it already has private payments, including Bitcoin.

There’s no way to validate the total supply of Monero. So if it ever has a supply bug (like Bitcoin’s value overflow incident), then it won’t be detected and patched.

explodicle,

I’ve never seen a use of blockchain yet that didn’t boil down to being virtual money.

A classic bitcoin article agrees with you: It’s Not About the Technology, It’s About the Money

explodicle,

My desire for drugs

explodicle, (edited )

I don’t 100% disagree with him. Like he said, it is an additional risk. Assuming no supply bugs, you can validate what is published.

I just disagree with him that it’s “near zero probability”. This already did happen with Bitcoin and we only caught it because we weren’t assuming zero supply bugs. Bugs happen and we’re talking about the future money supply for all humans.

Edit to add: and BTW it’s not just cryptography bugs (rare), but anything related to validation (like value overflow)

explodicle,

I had a very successful experience! My grandmother had no idea how computers worked at all, so I set up a very stripped-down Ubuntu that didn’t even allow multiple windows open. I could easily remote in whenever she had an issue.

She used it to check her email, read the news, and watch Obama’s weekly address until the week she died. (Unrelated to the computer)

explodicle,

It would be like the Trans Pacific Partnership, strengthening IP and DRM.

explodicle,

I like them just the way they are and wish they would stop wearing tower makeup all the time.

explodicle,

Fun fact: in Los Angeles they hide some of the giant oil pumps inside fake houses.

explodicle,

Why don’t they just put the electronics stuff on the tops of actual trees?

explodicle,

We should just use crowdfunding instead. There’s a lot of money you don’t have for crowdfunds because of IP monopolies today. Hollywood wouldn’t make as many high budget films, but it would remain a major hub for filmmakers who no longer need to appeal to entrenched business interests.

We’d get a lot of low budget but actually original films.

explodicle,

I agree that LVT doesn’t address the fundamental class antagonism. It only addresses economic rent.

Landlords can’t just jack up prices. LVT doesn’t distort prices because the supply of land is perfectly inelastic - the revenue comes entirely out of landlord surplus. UBIs so far haven’t caused significant inflation, which makes sense if the total amount distributed equals the total amount taxed.

explodicle,

Those mentions are of systemic state-run murder. That doesn’t make every murder a crime against humanity, especially vigilante justice against literal slavers.
