finestnothing,

Sounds like a radio station where there community submits songs

finestnothing, (edited )

The only subscriptions I am willing to pay for:

Phone bill - no choice
Internet bill - no choice
Insurance - no choice
World of Warcraft - sue me
Costco membership - worth it
VPN - worth it

I don’t pay for any others. Paid for lifetime Plex for the convenience of not needing to pay for a website domain like I would for jellyfin, and self host my own music, tv, and movies

finestnothing,

I stream my Plex server to my parents and inlaws so local and wireguard only isn’t feasible

I thought you meant the state of Georgia in the US at first instead of the country Georgia, it made the rest of the comment very confusing

Can confirm, Lemonade in the US is lemon juice + water + a lot of sugar, no carbonation

finestnothing,

I guess it’s a good thing Jesus’s birthday was probably sometime between June and October and Christmas is just another pagan holiday

finestnothing,

Most come from the pagan yule festival actually. Bonfires (now in fireplaces usually), decorating with holly, mistletoe, and evergreen trees, feasts, and gift-giving are all from yule (we’re missing ritual sacrifices from Christmas though, unfortunately). Saturnalia is primarily feasting, drinking, and gift exchanges. There’s definitely some overlap between the two, but yule has a much bigger influence (which isn’t surprising since almost all the other Christian holidays are also pagan based rather than Roman)

finestnothing,

Huh, TIL. I know fun random facts about paganism but had no idea that non-christian roman beliefs were included in it

Step 1: multiply all inches by 2.54 on the plans and not mess up or miss any of them
Step 2: have fun cutting on fun cm decimals like 6 inches = 15.24 cm

One of my favorite meals/snacks: sourdough baguette cut into small rounds with a sauce (mayonnaise, lemon juice, salt, a lot of basil, garlic, red pepper flakes, onion powder, and some oregano), tomato, zucchini, mozzarella cheese baked until cheese is browned. So delicious, especially if you use fresh basil and garlic and let the sauce sit in the fridge for a few hours beforehand

finestnothing,

Yep I put it on before baking! You don’t have to refrigerate before baking, it just helps the flavors come together in the sauce more if you give it an hour or two and you don’t want to leave mayonnaise at room temp for that long. It’s perfectly okay to mix the sauce then immediately bake them. They form little open faced sandwiches that go bread > sauce > tomato > zucchini> mozzarella so the sauce doesn’t have much exposure to the air anyway and has the tomato juices to help keep it from drying out

Same, I seed for 1 month or 4x ratio. I only have one private tracker (myanonamouse for books) that requires 1x ratio or 2 weeks seeding (maybe 2x ratio?) But I have unlimited internet. I’ve been the sole seeder for music files quite a few times, and for tv shows once or twice before they get picked up by others again. No downside to over seeding since I leave my PC on for hosting my Plex instance anyway, I just rate limit my seeding if I’m trying to watch something on Plex outside of my network and it’s buffering a lot. I get a lot of files from a usenet server anyway so I’m not bogged down by a ton of torrents (have it set to 50 active torrents, don’t think I’ve ever gotten there), just the stuff not available on my usenet server

finestnothing,

What are you even going on about? Proprietary Nvidia graphics drivers updates are released at basically the same time as the windows version, and amd has always worked flawlessly. I have 2 2k 144hz monitors with HDR and both work and look just as good on Linux as on Windows.

The only issues with high dpi monitors is that some apps don’t both detecting the monitor dpi and need to be adjusted manually… but there are very few that that is still an issue for, and windows has the same problem because it’s an app problem not an OS problem

finestnothing,

Can confirm, I told my wife that I’m a pussy and she just said that I’m also an ass

Should I wait for the "Snyder cut" (director's cut) of Rebel Moon?

Hearing the movie is getting bad reviews. But Snyder says the director’s cut will be a completely different movie with a different vision. I admit Zack Snyder’s Justice League (director’s cut) was much better than the theatrical version and quite different (though I had mostly forgotten the original by then). Not sure if I...

Save the farmers something something build up group of good time heroes something something betrayal something something palpatine pt2

finestnothing,

As a note, their application process is super easy, free, and they do it every weekend. Not paid or super exclusive, just makes sure you read the rules basically

finestnothing,

How has tor been compromised? I know windows defender was throwing a false-positive for a trojan after an update back in September but that’s all I’ve heard

finestnothing,

Wait til he learns about doom emacs which is emacs + vim keybinds (and a lot of other QOL features)

Emacs is a great OS with a bad editor
Vim is a great editor with a bad OS

finestnothing,

TIL Microsoft is better than I expected, they only donated $2,000 to anti-lgbtq

So far black desert online is the only game that I’ve wanted to play that I can’t on Linux (eac is awful). I know there are others, but it’s mainly fps games that bother with windows-only eac and I don’t play fps games all that much. Battlebit is probably the only fps I’ve been playing in the past few months, and they use/will be using a linux-compatible eac version which I’m jazzed about

finestnothing,

From the controversy around battlebit using eac, apparently the eac version that is just a checkmark for proton/Linux support is not a drop in replacement for the regular one that is more popular. The one with that option would require a lot of refactoring code, and doesn’t have all of the features of the main eac unfortunately.

finestnothing,

I picked Plex mainly because the lifetime sub wasn’t bad, and the features and polished interface were worth it. If Plex adds too many garbage/bloat features or removes useful features then I’ll jump ship to jellyfin immediately. Same boat for paying for bitwarden vs self hosting vaultwarden

finestnothing,

I hate it I hate it I hate it. Here the minimum most places offer without you doing a custom is 15% for most things and 20% for restaurants

finestnothing,

Go full emacs and use eww to browse the web within emacs. Bonus points that it lives in an emacs buffer so you can switch/split between buffers easily
