Is it still maintained ? I’d probably go with FreeBSD if I’m switching to BSD at all. It has ZFS out of the box and has support for nvidia’s non opensource driver. I have used it as a desktop OS for a good 3 months, it was pretty good (even though I couldn’t game on it)
Assuming that you are dualbooting from a single storage device - If you have some money to spare go and buy a second ssd. Keeping both OSes in separate storage devices will result in far lesser chances of screwing up.
There’s this Indian ISP called Jio. They have internet plans that bundle 14 or 15 Streaming services. These are mostly streaming that are only avaialble to that region. At least that way people don’t have to go through the hassle of managing every single subscription.
I’m personally happy with sailing the seas, not that I have time to watch all this content anyway.
Just use Bottles or Heroic Launcher to play the pirated games on your computer. Most of the games I tried have worked.
The only exceptions are Multiplayer games like Apex and valorant. Apex is not smooth enough to play competitively (last I checked was a few months ago) and Valorant doesnt work on Linux because of it’s rootkit anti cheat. If you only play single player games Linux is definitely worth a shot.
If it weren’t for a few Multiplayer games and my crappy epson printer I’d have completely wiped windows off of my computer.
I usually have 10 workspaces on all my setups. 2 of them will be unoccupied, so whenever I leave my desk I switch to that empty workspace (when nobody is around). When I come back my comfortable desktop welcomes me with a wallpaper that is easy on the eyes. Thats pretty much the only time I actually look at the desktop , apart from a brief moment after login of course.
I just got a AMD RX6600 because I was having issues with my old gtx 1660 super. It’s not a big upgrade but I got this card for $120 (and it was only lightly used for 5 months by the seller)....
I just use whatever that does the job. Sometimes I switch to systemd free distros just to know what it’s like (currently checking out dinit version of Artix)
I think most of the discrimination arises from a way of thinking which puts minimalism, simplicity and speed as the first priority and starts a unhealthy obsession over it. Sometimes keeping things too minimal can require more work than doing the actual work. This can also be seen in people who rave about WMs vs DEs and Wayland vs X.
Oh and I use XFCE btw. I feel like that’s the DE which gives me enough control over everything while not bombarding me with a truck ton of settings. I started using DEs again because I was spending all my time ricing away with window managers (and none of my rices were not even that good).
Some of my favourites are Void Linux, Artix and Opensuse Tumbleweed
Void was my first non-systemd distro, and it was super snappy as well. Some packages may not available but overall I had a really great experience with it. It also offers a version with the musl C library. Pretty cool if you ask me.
Opensuse tumbleweed is an overall a great distro, it’s one of my favourites. Also I noticed that many people have recommended it and that’s for a good reason. It’s installer isn’t that user friendly but I would prefer it over Fedora’s installer any day. ( I haven’t tried the last 3 iterations of Fedora, so it might have changed now )
Artix is well… arch with different init systems. Nothing too crazy. Its what I have been daily driving for the past year or so.
I have not used pop recently. To be fair both are kind of similar, at least base wise. So one cannot go wrong with any of the two. I like the traditional layout of cinnamon better than Gnome (out of the box) so I’ll pick Mint.
It just works. Whenever anyone I know tells me they are going to install ubuntu or try out linux for the first time - I just tell them to install linux mint and they’ve had no complaints so far.
(Even though I only use mint as a fallback distro, I really appreciate it being there)
R.I.P tachiyomi, I have used it for years. Kind of sad to see it go. Are the forks also abandoning development ? I have been using the TachiJ2k fork for the past 3 years or so.
I used to say the same thing to my highschool history teacher. Little did I know, it would help me later on. I’m not talking about pointless dates - it’s the lessons that matter.
One can’t know everything, but knowing some of it enables us to prevent the mistakes that we would have made otherwise.

What's your current favorite distro that isn't Arch, Debian or Fedora?
I’m wondering what the current favorite distros are besides the most popular ones like Arch, Debian and Fedora.
