Can’t do much with 1GB. And the Pi4 isn’t part of a “product range”, it’s the previous generation product.

I don’t expect it either, which is why these things don’t make sense anymore, and why I actually recently passed them up for an X86 competitor. Prices of RPi’s have inflated, supply has gone down to nothing, and all the while all sorts of competition has entered the SBC scene that provides a much better value.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the RPi and I feel like a real cool nerd with bare PCBs sitting around my house, but they’re just too expensive now.

That’s nice. Let me know when they’re $30 again.

Of course the pi 4 is still part of the product range. It’s still being actively manufactured and sold.

Its a 5-year old product. With 5 year old specs.

As far as memory size, that wasn’t part of your original complaint.

Yes I also didn’t specify a clock speed, storage size, network speed, etc. What I meant was a modern version of an old product with similarly modern specs.

$35 in 2012 is $47 today

And yet the Pi5 starts at $60.

You’re also missing the other half of this conversation where other SBCs have come way down in price.

Le Potato, Orange Pi, Zima products, Rockchip, not to mention all the X86 mini PCs, old office PCs, etc.

Because Windows blows.

Saved you a click.

Why wait? Jump now.

I highly recommend dual booting because there will be times when you get fed up with the penguin’s bullshit.

Also Linux Mint is a great recommendation, but I have to recommend the Debian edition.

Self-hosted or personal email solutions?

I have a unique name, think John Doe, and I’m hoping to create a unique and “professional” looking email account like johndoe@gmail.com or john@doe.com. Since my name is common, all reasonable permutations are taken. I was considering purchasing a domain with something unique, then making personal family email accounts for...

I don’t give my personal email address to literally anyone. Everyone gets an alias.

Once someone gets your personal email address and leaks it, there is no way to stop spam. You cannot delete your personal address because it is your account identity.

Firefox Relay, AnonAddy, SimpleLogin, all great services.

I have a business email address that I’m just unfortunately stuck digging through spam.

It removes the trackers from the ends of URLs

These are not tracking links in the conventional sense where they append tracking data to the legitimate link. They just hijack the link that someone else posts and replace it with an entirely new tracking link with a l.facebook.com domain.

No link cleaning software I have found works because of this.

AppImages suck because I can’t pin them to my dashboard, can’t set them to open at startup and can’t set them as default apps for the appropriate filetypes.

Linux distribution for gaming and media centre.

Heya! I’m looking to install Linux for the first time on parts from my old pc builds to use as a media centre and multiplayer gaming system in my living room. Something with as clean as possible interface with room for customization would be cool. Oh and support for my old nvidia gpu....

Don’t know why I see so many people recommending HoloISO. It hasn’t been updated in 3 months, and all they did was merge a bunch of code from Chimera.

ChimeraOS and Bazzite are what you’re looking for.

So hilarious to see this on this sub after people assured me time and time again that “we only pirate because prices are too high!”

Ways to pirate music as convenient as Spotify?

The reason I gave up on MP3’s and subscribed to Spotify was because Spotify was easy. I’ve been listening “Iron Maiden - Empire of the Clouds” song every day and like a week ago, its removed. This was the last straw for me. Right now I’m trying to find “Stremio” of the music world. Can someone assist?...

This person gave up on pirating MP3s because it was too complicated and the top suggestion is to start a homeserver. LOL you guys are woefully out of touch.

Wow. I never would have guessed that people would be upset that they couldn’t watch ads.

helenslunch,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

That’s because it’s built on top of uBlock. If you click on the extension it even has the uBlock logo. It’s literally just uBlock except it clicks on ads in the background. It even tells you how much projected money you cost them for clicking their shitty ads. And the websites gets paid. Only the advertisers get shafted.

Honestly I’m astonished it’s not more popular.

I am pouring one out to this little champ. Stripping HDCP and letting me... archive streaming services from 2016-2023 RIP (lemmy.world)

What killed it, well after reviewing some PS4 gameplay I noticed that it was having audio issues, like it would allow some sounds but not all. It was almost as if it was receiving a 5.1 audio output but was missing the centre channel. Even though the PS4 was set to stereo....

I’m convinced it has something to do with appeasing ignorant investors.

I mean there are a myriad of ways to avoid this:

  1. Log out
  2. Use container tabs or profiles in your favorite browser
  3. Use dedicated apps like FreeTube, GrayJay, NewPipe, Invidious, LibreTube, etc. that don’t even ask for a login.

So is there an easy way to migrate all your stuff to some other email service and what are some good ones?

So you can set up a free Proton Mail account and then connect it to your Google account and it will begin archiving all of your emails, past and future. It also has a way better web client than Gmail (not saying much).
