Amazon clearly lying about "ownership" on Prime. (lemmy.world)

You all remember just a few weeks ago when Sony ripped away a bunch of movies and TV shows people “owned”? This ad is on Amazon. You can’t “own” it on Prime. You can just access it until they lose the license. How can they get away with lying like this?

hperrin,

I had an Oculus account. I bought games for Oculus. Facebook forced me to link my Facebook account to it. Facebook removed Oculus accounts so it was all under Facebook accounts. Facebook deleted my account. I no longer owned the games I bought. I deleted the Facebook app.

hperrin,

Yes, thank you. I’ll add that to the overview.

hperrin,

It does. The Windows built in WebDAV client was not great until Windows 10, so that might be what you’re remembering.

hperrin,

That’s because the people making it are doing it for a job rather than for the love of it. (Except me. Surely I don’t do that.)

hperrin,

Now I know better. No more Ubuntu Server.

hperrin,

Right now I’m self funding it. I’m building out the enterprise features, like custom domains and domain user management, so I can start marketing to businesses. I’d like to be able to fund it to profitability without any outside investors.

It’s actually surprisingly affordable to run an email service. Right now my biggest expense is the MySQL server. With one server node plus one backup node I should be able to handle several hundred active users.

hperrin,

We invented Bed Bath & Beyond in that time though. That’s not nothing.

hperrin,

Yes, workers unions are famous for fighting to lower the wages of the workers they represent. Very much. Indeed.

Which items/products were you once able to get from local shops on a whim that you now more or less have to order online?

Sometimes I find myself shopping for things that I’d prefer to go out and get within the same day, but now I’d have to order and wait a few days to get…So I’m wondering what some of those things may be for you?

hperrin,

I heard the other day that Hobby Lobby doesn’t use barcodes, which is really inconvenient for the staff and the customers. I’m presuming it’s for some religious reason like “mark of the beast” or something.

hperrin,

Let me get you a copy of Ultimate Boot CD. Or, are you more of a Hiren’s BootCD user?

hperrin,

I could be wrong, but I believe one of the requirements for life insurance payments is that it was not suicide.

hperrin,

I don’t really have any advice for you, but I hope your surgery goes well and you start feeling better soon. I’m sending good vibes your way!

I use Brave to test whether my websites work on Chromium browsers, but their scummy actions lately make me want to find a new Chromium browser to test with. What's the best Chromium based browser?

I already use Firefox for browsing normally, but I have to test on a Chromium based browser too. One soft requirement is that it should be installable with Flatpak on Linux.

hperrin,

Edge isn’t installed by default on any of the computers I use, and I’m not a huge fan of all the junk they put in it.

Also I just downloaded it on Mac and it’s a .pkg file, so that really sets off alarm bells.

hperrin,

100% truth.

hperrin,

I don’t use Windows much, but Edge is available on Mac and Linux. I’m just not a fan of all the “features” they put in it. I’m looking for more of a clean browser experience, if you get what I mean.

hperrin,

I don’t like Google trackers.

hperrin,

Yeah, this is a contender. No Windows build and no sync are the downsides, but neither is a deal breaker, since I’m only testing with it, and I code on Linux and Mac.

hperrin,

Are we talking volumetric capybaras or massive capybaras?

hperrin,

I have a server in the garage with a big RAID array, and I run a Nephele WebDAV server on it. All my PCs, and my family’s PCs back up to it every 3 days.

It also streams all my movies and TV shows on a Jellyfin server.

Also, to be extra cautious, I have a server at my in laws’ house with a 20TB hard drive that I periodically sync that RAID array to.

(Full disclosure: I am the author of Nephele.)
