This reminds me of how when reddit closed their API, a select few just went to web scraping it instead lol.

I’m really hoping this all forces Ubuntu out as the face of desktop Linux.

It’s been pretty low tier for years now, and Canonical just proves corporate backing doesn’t guarantee a good distro.

Snap is pretty garbage, default GNOME is horrendous, the repos break every other month, apt is still pretty lame despite being an user upgrade for apt-get, the packages are neither stable nor cutting edge, they change core OS backends like every update which breaks configs and makes documentation obsolete.

I’d like to suggest Fedora as the new goto, but I feel like it’s a bit too privacy and FOSS oriented which may scare away new users.

Debian is great but it doesn’t have latest packages which isn’t optimal as performance upgrades would take time to release or need to be manually installed.

Already mentioned in thread, Anker cables. It has very good threaded covers that are strong and hard to damage. Internal copper cables and the USB ends are also very well made so there is no chance for it to fray or crack.

Bought a pair pack over 6 years ago. Still haven’t used the second cable because the first one is as good as new.

Also NGK spark plugs lol.

XFCE with Compiz as the compositor

Or just straight Compiz

Make sure you enable all the funny effects like the cube, cube animations, 3D windows, advanced window animations, transparency effects, sky box, etc.

All easy to do with compiz config manager.

mlg, to linux in What distros have you tried and thought, "Nope, this one's not for me"?

Arch: Arch

Ubuntu (and downstreams): Canonical

Enjoying Fedora. Find Debian (and downstreams) pretty solid as well.

GTA IV Pakistan edition

Basically, just a GTA4 pirate rip and modded and sold on actual disks.

There are several, and they are hard to find online because any uploads of it probably don’t exist anywhere anymore, and were already rare due to aforementioned disks.

Some of them are so regional and probably made by one person, the only way to find one is to get a computer HDD with it installed.

Thinkpads (p14s are a good example) are really great with everything except probably gaming. Having a good GPU usually just comes at the cost of battery life.

Fedora or Nobara for OS

If you reaaaaaally want gaming, you could look at external GPU via thunderbolt or USB 4

If you want something even lighter, Samsung makes some decent laptops with insane battery life and really thin metal casing. Only issue is they’re usually expensive and don’t drop in price like Thinkpads sometimes do.

mlg, to linuxmemes in Wayland vs X11 be like
@mlg@lemmy.world avatar

stupid old man rant:

spoilerKDE making random features only available on wayland for no reason like trackpad gestures because memes GNOME being GNOME which is being useless anyway And literally everyone else is still using X11 by default, unless you count the 20 random github compositors that no one uses. I would switch to wayland if it had any actual immediate benefit, especially in performance, but as far as I have tested it doesn’t. Will probably join it in 2030 when the xfce devs wake up from their eternal slumber and make an update for it
