netchami, to piracy in Is BT over Tor still not recommened?

Tor is not meant for torrenting, so improvements to torrenting on Tor will never be made.

netchami, to piracy in What VPN do you use and why?

I run 2 nodes at my house, several nodes (including exit nodes) on different VPS providers and I use the Snowflake addon in all of my browsers. But Tor is meant for people who require anonymity and the ability to circumvent censorship, not for those who don’t want to pay for a VPN.

netchami, to privacyguides in What do you use for cloud storage and why?

I have a self-hosted Nextcloud instance, but I don’t expose it to the internet, so I use Proton Drive if I need to share files with other people. I use self-hosted Immich to sync my photos from all of my devices.

Always follow 3-2-1 backup plan for your precious photos and videos!

This is good advice.

Check this out: www.privacyguides.org/en/vpn/. It will help you make a good decision. Also, my personal recommendation: AirVPN.

Am I screwing up?

Yes.

Come on, don’t waste Tor resources for downloading pirated content. That’s what VPNs are for. Journalists and activists in countries like Russia, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, etc. rely on Tor in order to do their work, just use a VPN for downloading, it’s also much faster.

Mullvad is great. Also check out IVPN, they are kinda similar to Mullvad (they also allow for anonymous registration without an Email address and they accept anonymous Monero payments). Maybe take a look at AirVPN if you need port forwarding.

Check out AirVPN if you want port forwarding.

Why are people using this Website when you can just use Deemix on Desktop or Murglar on Android?

LibreTube isn’t broken, it’s the Piped instances that have issues. You just need to switch to another Piped instance in the settings. Click on the three dots, then select settings, go to ‘Instance’ and at the top you can hit ‘Choose…’ to change the Piped instance. I haven’t experienced any issues with adminforge.de. kavin.rocks also seems to work well.

netchami, to asklemmy in What reasons are there for being concerned about companies like google and meta etc collecting data and tracking me?

The biggest concern is that even if you are innocent, your data can and likely will at some point be used against you. This was proven by the Snowden Leaks. There are more than enough of these unfortunate cases, here are some examples:

I can recommend Privacy Guides, it’s a website created by volunteers to teach people about digital privacy and security. It’s great for beginners.
