otter,

I’m not sure about what the backup schedule and stuff has to do with it, but I don’t think it helps much:

  • deleted posts don’t come up in Google searches after a while
  • deleted comments might be counted in the comment count on a post someone navigates to (not sure), so at most the post will initially appear to have more content which might get someone to click

Marginal change at best, it’s probably not worth your time thinking about it

otter,

I think Lemmy has themes too

I try to use the built in darkmode because dark reader got sluggish on some sites. Then I whitelist it on the sites that I need to

otter,

I always keep chrome installed and updated alongside the other browsers. Sometimes it’s necessary for certain websites

  • Firefox: 90% of my usage
  • Mullvad: for tasks where privacy is extra important
  • chrome: when websites don’t work with the above
otter,

Any particular areas of medicine?

Also I haven’t been promoting the communities well enough but we’ve got some on Lemmy that could use more activity. I was planning to get them going more in the new year

!medicine for r/medicine

!medicine for the hub to other stuff

  • !health isn’t listed there yet but will be soon
otter,

Great thing for everyone to keep in mind :)

otter,

I think it’s about flying the plane, in the simplest form

Pull the centre stick back and you’ll go up (houses look smaller and smaller), then push for the opposite

Maybe there’s an inappropriate doodle on the window or something?

Does Google still hold contact data after deleting from Google Contacts?

I am in the process of moving out some contacts from Google Contacts, specifically those that I do not have a Gmail address. It's a way for me to give these people a tiny bit more privacy, as I'm doing a cleanup of my contact list. My concern is that Google will still keep their data even after I delete it from my end. Is it so?...

otter,

Agreed, I didn’t think to do this but I might go through my list when I get time

While companies may secretly hold on to the data, it would also prevent future apps from abusing the data if I accidentally allow contact permissions

otter,

Also in the future, consider using one of the linked communities in the sidebar instead of this one.

Does this exist?? Messaging platform with a panic button from any member.

Basically I am looking for a messaging platform like signal or? but with anonymous signup, perfect forward secrecy, capable of video chat, sending photos the usual uses in today’s life. But with a panic button. So that any party member could use said button to wipe all other members devices of any data instantly inside the...

otter,

Note with Snapchat that, it just gets hidden

You can find comments from people where old messages and images start popping back up because of bugs in the app. Snapchat is near the bottom of the barrel when it comes to privacy and security, despite the premise

otter,

The subreddit for your field may be the best for now

If it’s CS/tech, Lemmy career communities might work, the other fields are not as full yet

otter,

The hope here was that the device would work the way we want them to

So locally processed data, no tracking (unless you want to track your location intentionally) etc.

otter,

For some reason I read reserve like a national resource reserve (ex. Gold, fuel, helium) rather than conservation area

Had me confused

otter,

Oh huh

Well that might discourage people from voting…

otter, (edited )

That’s still all I can see, what is it actually lol

Edit: got it right after posting whoops

“I use…”

For those advertising communities, also try posting on !communityPromo

As for some of the ones I’m helping with

Good point :) Here’s the blurb from the pinned post in !communityPromo

A great way to find lesser known communities is to look at the /communities page on an instance. For example: lemmy.ca/communities

otter,

I love it, even better that it’s OC 😊

otter,

This doesn’t really answer the question, but sometimes it’s not so much who the role model is but what action they want to model.

Maybe it was wanting to get better at controlling emotions, being great at communicating during a breakup, or a general attitude towards problems that come up.

When I see someone admire / want to emulate the good actions of others, that’s a green flag.

otter,

Oh that’s a good point, it could help in professional settings
