Thinkpads RE: Repairability/upgradability

I need to upgrade my laptop and one of the things I’m looking for is repairability/upgradability. I’ve been told thinkpads are good in this respect, how true is that? In terms of replacing batteries and memory, at least. I’m also looking at the frameworks, but those black friday deals are looking alright at lenovo....

pastermil,

I’d also like to add that between 20 series and 80 series would be the best for build quality (and reasonable performance).

pastermil,

That’s why you trade them out for some big guns.

pastermil,

Other DEs should use network manager as well. I’ve tested this at least on MATE, XFCE, as well as Cinnamon.

This is not a guarantee, tho, as users can pretty much install whatever they want.

Are movie and show file sizes more efficient than they were years ago?

This may be a stupid question, but I just got back into pirating some shows and movies and realize that many of the QxR files are much smaller than what I downloaded in the past. Is it likely that I am sacrificing a noticeable amount of quality if I replace my files with the smaller QxR ones?...

pastermil,

I wonder what the implications would be for us consumers & pirates.

pastermil,

He’s not a supervillain.

He’s an antihero.

pastermil,

Doctor Who (him/her)self has done so many messed up stuff in the name of his/her own moral compass.

pastermil,

The stress caused by that asteroid catastrophe probably spawned these mental issues. Poor things…

pastermil,

Not sure your exact situation, but from just the information you shared, there seem to be three options that you can choose from.

  • remain undiscovered: just do nothing, stay where you are
  • heavily curate your profile: get rid of the stuff you want to hide which I presume would be the reason you want to stay anonymous
  • just show everything: hide nothing, let them judge you

There’s actually the fourth option in which you create something new just to show them, but would it be the kind of piece you’d be proud of? It wouldn’t be the same as the ones you’d want to show them.

Z-Library Blog: "Unprecedented seizure of our domains with books on rare languages" (z-library.se)

Today we are forced to share some sad news - yesterday many of our domains were seized again. We should highlight that the majority of the seized domains were not mirrors of the Z-Library website. Instead, they were separate sub-projects, containing only books in rare languages of the world, and their blocking is perplexing. For...

pastermil,

config neovim while clocked in.

You’re supposed to do it on your free time, like over the weekend, instead of spending time with your loved ones. Duh!

pastermil,

Drawer? I keep mine in a bucket straight from the drier!

pastermil,

I use btrfs subvols to keep my stuff separate without any sort of hard limit.

The reason? Makes managing system backups easier. The home and log directories are both on separate subvol; the tmp directories are on tmpfs. All I need to do is snapshpt the root subvol.

pastermil,

Are you sure about that? Because they way I see it, Kbin is lagging behind both Mastodon & Lemmy.

pastermil,

Yeah, I think Canonical is full of crap, but in this context, what they’re doing is justified.

This article is clickbait.

pastermil,

No need to be new. I’d get a second hand Thinkpad T480.

pastermil,

As in responding slowly? I’m aware Peppermint is not meant for aesthetics, but it should be responsive.

pastermil,

Peppermint OS!

pastermil,

I would wish OP to step on a Lego, or even better, a British main plug.

pastermil,

Time to make SDDM greeter Wayland by default as well!

pastermil,

I read mostly tech news these days.

Ars Technica, anyone?

pastermil,

Oh boy, big update coming soon to your nearest distro!

pastermil,

Wasn’t a lot of Star Wars’ aestetic (especially the early ones) inspired by World War 2?
