phoenixz, to risa in Bait

In all honesty, most people that hate current trek don’t hate it because it’s too woke, they hate it because it’s just generic trash. Classic trek didn’t care much about big space battles, loads of pew pew and great action shots. Classic trek cared about great stories. The ships were places where people actually worked and lived together.

Current trek (anything after enterprise) has horrible story lines, horrible dialogue, is mostly about dump action pew pew and CGI, ignores 50 years of history, is all about fuck this, fuck that and fucking fuck you and honestly: it isn’t woke: it’s only virtue signalling.

Classic trek was woke by making great stories about real issues in society. New trek is just a sad shadow of what it used to be.

I was never bothered by new trek being too woke because it isn’t.

To quote a really shitty show: sheer fucking hubris.

phoenixz, to memes in So that's it, huh? We're some kind of Suicide Squad?

That leaves for an interesting question: why is most writing these days so god awful? There are great writers out there. Hollywood isn’t stupid (is it?) and wants money. Why do they put shit writers on so many projects that then flop like the shit that it is?

What’s so bad about Kirby?

phoenixz, to lemmyshitpost in Get to work, crackheads

So much wrong in this picture.

  • Hey, want to commit a crime?
  • photo enforcement sucks and doesn’t really work and is just used as tax revenue for cities
  • meanwhile speeding continues as normal with all the casualties that come with it
  • Cities, however, do need this revenue to not go bankrupt because they’re all designed wrong and can barely get any tax revenued while still affording details like infrastructure maintenance
  • Cities should redesign their rod infrastructure instead. Where you still need car roads, design the roads for the speed you want. If you put a highway in front of a school, people will drive a 100 miles per hour because that is what the road was dest for.
  • Cities should start changing laws to push for livable designs focused on humans beings instead of cars everywhere. You’ll need less cars, have less accidents, get more tax revenue from more local businesses

Install Linux, be done with the Microsoft windows shit.

Which is why I stopped going since about 4 years ago now. One day I just went to a different mall, and never looked back

Meanwhile the KDE settings panel has been designed and redesigned like 20 times in the past 20 years. Much better, but also… Dude, please focus more on stability and less on “let’s redo this from scratch again!”

phoenixz, to selfhosted in Do any of you have that one service that just breaks constantly? I'd love to love Nextcloud, but it sure makes that difficult at times

Am i the only one left who doesn’t want a snap docker Kubernetes container and just installs nextcloud in a normal way and never had any problems?

phoenixz, to memes in Both beliefs are fine, but please realize the hypocrisy

Could (a) god(s) exist? Possibly, it’s hard to rule out the supernatural in natural terms since it’s SUPERnatural

Could the universe be a simulation? Possible too, but also on of those things that’s almost impossible to prove.

At the same time, it could be that your e a Boltzmann brain, and that literally nothing existed before and that your brain just kinda formed together spontaneously with all your memories.

All those are possible options that are over 99% likely to be false, but their cooouuullldd be true.

Point is not to rearrange your life on the off changlce that one of those are true. Especially religion, since religions tend to be “believe our particular god(s) or you go to hell for eternity” followed closely by “if you don’t believe our particular god(s) we will help you go to hell right now”. Nearly all human conflicts in Earth’s history were either based on religion or used religion as a tool to whip up the masses to go kill the others.

There are also hundreds of Gods and over 3000 different religious figures out there and they’re all pretty much exclusive or, they all claim to be the right one and the rest is wrong. Bold claim to make when it’s all based off goat herders texts that were first abused for a completely different god (hello, Christianity!) and constantly conflicts with each other.

Simulation theory and Boltzman brain ideas are fun to entertain and talk and think about, but they’ve never been used to control who can love and have sex with who, they’ve never been a used whereas religion just IS abuse and control in every way possible.

I do not like religion

phoenixz, to memes in OHHH WAY DOWN SOUTH IN THE LAND OF TRAITORS,

This would be so much fun to watch. They wouldn’t be able to take the US army with them, US army bases would be dismantled, nukes would be removed, Mexico would be like “fuck no” and have no trade with them, and the US, being their former Union, would also give them the finger. Thousands, plug not millions of people would cross borders there to either leave or join the shit hole (because fuck the liberal US government!) causing a huge outflux of knowledge and competence and a huge influx of rednecks.

Let me be clear though: this will never happen, because the politicians calling for this know damn well that they’d be fucked. They’re just riling their base with dumb but popular rhetoric.

phoenixz, to programmer_humor in Why pay for an OpenAI subscription?

To be fair, human brains are basically impressive probability machines. Yes, there is more to it, but a lot of it is about just probabilities
