It’s really not that bad. Just don’t go off script unless you know what you’re doing. Same as every OS.

recapitated, to asklemmy in Best android app for news aggregation?

I use nextcloud news for rss feeds, and ground news for regular summaries and breaking news, as if I’m important enough to need to know everything right away.

I know this is a shit post but in case anyone doesn’t know: never shoot bullets at water.

I try to adopt the mindset that my loved ones don’t need me to be their tech enthusiast… But they need me to be their tech therapist.

When I heard about the Y2K panic in the mid 90s the very first thing I did (as a kid) was advance my clock to 12/31/1999 to see what would happen next.

IIRC when the date changed, it went back to some date in the 1980s I think. This was either windows 95 or 98, I can’t remember.

Anyway that advice to turn your computer off… What the heck? Then what, throw it away?

recapitated, to selfhosted in Do any of you have that one service that just breaks constantly? I'd love to love Nextcloud, but it sure makes that difficult at times

I don’t remember much about how to use kubernetes but if you can specify a tag like nextcloud:28 instead of nextcloud:latest you should have a safer time with upgrades. Then make sure you always upgrade all the way before moving to a newer major version, this is crucial.

There are varying degrees of version specificity available: hub.docker.com/_/nextcloud/tags

Make sure you’re periodically evaluating your site with scan.nextcloud.com and following all of the recommended best practices.

I have only ever run nextcloud in docker. No idea what people are complaining about. I guess I’ll have to lurk more and find out.
