How do I stop a crush from developing further?

I think I got a crush on my dance instructor. Which fucking sucks for all the obvious reasons. Normally I wouldn’t be so worried. BUT I JUST HAD A GODDAMN ROMANTIC DREAM ABOUT HER. Seriously I just woke up from a dream about her confessing her love to me and me eagerly doing the same about her....

retrieval4558,

Time. Crushes are naturally a temporary infatuation. They pass given time. Have fun with the fantasies, but I personally would not suggest trying to actually hit on her.

It’s poor form to hit on people in their work places. If she initiates, that’s one thing, but I wouldn’t try anything otherwise.

It’s fucked up that this is the best case scenario

Pi-Hole or something else for network ad blocking?

I’ve been aware of pi-hole for a while now, but never bothered with it because I do most web browsing on a laptop where browser extensions like uBlock origin are good enough. However, with multiple streaming services starting to insert adds into my paid subscriptions, I’m looking to upgrade to a network blocker that will...

retrieval4558,

Yeah do it there is basically no downside. I agree with others that you may have trouble with the ads in streaming services. On my android TV, YouTube ads, for instance, aren’t blocked by pihole.

Because the power dynamic between a 20 year old intern and THE FUCKING PRESIDENT is such that it was essentially rape.

retrieval4558,

Does Jellyfin save your watched history using that set-up? That’s my main hangup to using Kodi.

retrieval4558,

Yeah as someone who has gotten into Linux and DIY computer builds in the last year, I’ve been pretty sad at some deletions. Ultimately the fault is on Reddit itself but still pretty sad.

retrieval4558,

Yeah node red + the notification services on HA would definitely be how I do this. In fact, I kinda do already.

retrieval4558,

Another place where this view falls short is that a person doesn’t need to have NPD to act like a narcissist on a regular basis, the same way a person can be volatile and not meet the criteria for BPD.

retrieval4558,

I use a fractal design node 304. It’s pretty cool, but has all the limitations and problems you would expect from a case that size.

retrieval4558,

Despite increasing knowledge, there is still a lot we don’t know. People will always use religion to fill the gaps in our knowledge. Especially the questions, “why is there something rather than nothing?” And “what do you experience when you die”, which imo are unknowable (although we’ve got pretty good evidence for the latter answer being “nothing”)

What's an elegant way of automatically backing up the contents of a large drive to multiple smaller drives that add up to the capacity of the large drive?

So I have a nearly full 4 TB hard drive in my server that I want to make an offline backup of. However, the only spare hard drives I have are a few 500 GB and 1 TB ones, so the entire contents will not fit all at once, but I do have enough total space for it. I also only have one USB hard drive dock so I can only plug in one...

retrieval4558,

Probably not the answer you’re looking for but I’d probably build a dedicated nas.

retrieval4558, (edited )

Kubuntu on my desktop and Fedora KDE on my laptop. I probably should explore some other DEs (I have some experience with cinnamon and xfce) but just really like KDE lol.

Also unRAID on my nas if that counts.

retrieval4558,

Agree. I work in an ICU and see the effects of alcohol and tobacco CONSTANTLY. I’ve seen a serious problem from cannabis once.

retrieval4558,

It’s very possible we haven’t learned to recognize them. (although that fact also implies that the effects are subtle, doesn’t it?)

Thank you for the links. I didn’t have time to review them all in detail but I did take the time to find the study that Forbes was referring to ( because a sample size that big is very interesting, even if it was just a population study.

Their inclusion criteria were people who had Cannabis Use Disorder documented on their chart compared to statistically matched people who did not. They tried to control for socioeconomic factors.

In my opinion, it’s worth noting that people who end up with that chart diagnosis are going to be on the heavier end of users, as the majority of people who use pot don’t report it to their doctors nor end up in the EDs with cannabis related complaints.

In comparing the two populations, they found that the ABSOLUTE RISK (not relative risk) of adverse cardiovascular events was increased by 0.9%. Notable limitations to the study include that they don’t know exactly how much cannabis each person was using, they couldn’t fully control for tobacco use, and (imo) the exclusion of people with previous cardiovascular events was limited to a 2 year lookback, which may be a bit limiting.

So the conclusions we can draw from this is “within a population of the heaviest cannabis users with greater than average healthcare exposure, risk of CVD goes up by less than a percent.”

I’m totally willing to believe that it presents some risk- I just think it’s more likely to be even less of a factor (or at least in the same ballpark) in the development of CVD than things like diet and exercise.

Comparing this study to some established numbers on tobacco can be helpful here. A quick search on the medical database UpToDate showed me some data suggesting that in heavy smokers, the risk of CVD was 600% greater (relative risk), which is 10 times higher than the 60% relative risk increase that we saw in the cannabis study.

retrieval4558,

I’m hopelessly addicted to caffeine and the withdrawal from it is such a bitch, especially compared to cannabis withdrawal.

retrieval4558,

Any chance you’d be willing to post more sticker pics? Can’t find them on the site and am interested.

I think most people will tell you that there’s no need to use a VPN with Usenet. I personally do not. However, if one was to put any of the containers behind the VPN, I think that SABnzbd would be the one to do it with.

I’m not a Usenet expert so feel free to correct me.

retrieval4558,

I just did something similar last week. My criteria were 1) small form factor like a Chromebook, 2) not actually a Chromebook, 3) could swap out or install an m.2 SSD.

I ended up getting a harddrive-less old Latitude 3190 for 30$ off eBay, put a 256gb SSD in (had it lying around + that’s the max capacity supported I think), and ended up installing fedora KDE. It’s not perfect but for the price it’s amazing

retrieval4558,

Yeah, did some research and it ended up being a screw that needed removed. Regardless, I didn’t know this was possible at all so I’m quite happy
