You Need to Turn on Apple’s New Stolen iPhone Tool (www.wired.com)

Apple today launched a new tool for iPhones to help reduce what a thief with your phone and passcode can access. The feature, called Stolen Device Protection, adds extra layers of protection to your iPhone when someone tries to access or change sensitive settings on your device.

smeg,

Relying more on biometrics hardly seems secure. Passwords can be changed, biometrics are forever and authorities do like to keep records of them.

smeg,

I thought the Meet Me at McDonald’s was just curly on top, shaved back and sides. Dubya in this pic looks like one of those goldfish with the big sticking-out brain.

smeg,

Actually generating an image related to your caption? That’s way too much effort for a shitpost!

smeg,

We’re not all from the USA here, remember!

smeg,

Spoiling your ballot is an established and documented form of political protest. Nothing says “fuck all these chumps” like drawing a big cock and balls on the ballot.

smeg,

Fair, that makes sense. I still admire the chaos monkey energy of your ketchup colleague though!

smeg,

Last time I tried it I was surprised to find out that Google maps works fine without any play services installed!

smeg,

That means your fans are good then!

smeg,

Definitely, last time I used github’s one it could barely do more than push and pull. I’ll almost always use a (good!) UI over the git CLI though.

This package of bagels I bought expired on a date that doesn't exist. (i.imgur.com)

I originally posted this on the other site back when I took the picture, and it resulted in a lot of confused comments, especially from Americans, eventually getting removed by overzealous mods. Either way, I promise you that this date does not exist, and has never existed.

smeg,

I initially saw those pipes as a giant terminator hand

Seeing what people with different accents think rhymes is wild. Calm, farm and palm all rhyme but sound nothing like com or pom!

smeg,

Bambi?! WTF, why show that to kids?

To teach them about death as part of a story with a happy ending. I think that The Lion King does it better though as they’ve already been briefed on the circle of life.

smeg,

Be thankful you didn’t watch Watership Down

smeg,

I used to watch the same movie about every month or so back when I was growing up

I don’t think this is a technical limitation, I think young children really like repetition because their brains are still learning how to predict things

smeg,

Ironically I found the best way to watch YouTube on the TV was to pay Google for a “Chromecast with Android TV” (or whatever it’s called) and install SmartTube on it. I could have spent a while tinkering around with my Raspberry Pi to create some custom solution and given Google no money, but this cost less than 2 months of YouTube premium and now I’ve got a device I can do whatever with.

smeg,

Can’t believe I made such a foolish blunder in front of the head of NASA, my apologies doctor

smeg,

What’s with the giant whitespace chin on this comic?

smeg,

Makes sense, a mystery temptation to visit the site!

smeg,

This is worth being a post on it’s own, very useful

What’s wrong is that the Tory government has been in power for over a decade and thinks they can get away with increasingly authoritarian legislation like this

Help wanted

I live in the EU and the company I work at has been bought out by an american company. They now want me to sign a document that lets them transfer my personal data from my employer to the USA. They want my Name, full address and birthday. It says that they need this for some “compliance regulation” which includes the...

smeg,

You could always just not do it any say nothing. It might just get forgotten, though more likely that eventually your manager will explicitly ask you to do it and they might have reasonable grounds for dismissal if you explicitly refuse. As others have said it’s probably not the worst thing in the world compared to your job!

smeg,

The government isn’t forking out to put cameras everywhere though. There are a few in city centres which I’d imagine local councils have to pay for, most are installed by private businesses just to protect their own property.
