What’s truly insane is people who marry under 20. And if you think it’s possible to know who you are and what you want at that age, you have a very simplistic view of the world. Or you’re brainwashed by those who reared you, ie you have a very simplistic view of the world.
My father was very high-achieving in business, so when he gave me the following piece of advice, it was truly unexpected. He told me, “if you can get away with only putting in maybe 85% and still get things done, maybe only give 85%.”
I expected some holier than thou “you must give it your all,” but he taught me to coast when I can do so and still meet expectations.
An unhoused woman recently asked me if I’d buy her some food at a fast food joint. I said ok because I think I have a moral obligation to help anyone who asks for food if I can afford to. She ordered the largest multi-item meal they offered (think bucket of chicken). The person ringing it up offered to do a smaller combo, but I said fuck it and let her get the largest. I figured she might have people to feed other than herself and it’s not like I couldn’t afford to let her indulge.
The reason I’m proud on this is because I changed myself into this compassionate person where once there was an angry person filled with hate. This is the product of years of therapy and deliberate self-work. I’m also proud of finally being able to love myself. That happened in 2019-2020.
How he can be tried for the duty of a prop person or the director who hired that person is beyond ludicrous. The man showed up to do a job. That job was not to keep the props safe. He was handed a tool and told it was ok to use. Fuck this system. Let him go about his life. I’m sure the trauma of having shot someone for real is enough to make him double-check for the rest of his life. That’s enough.
Holy fuck, I’m sorry for your situation. I undoubtedly know someone who thinks this way; I’m just unaware of anyone who does. Six openly sharing such beliefs is alarming.
Well, everything is terrible when you subject it to the realities of our modern world. Just turn off that part of your mind for a few moments and enjoy the idea.
This is becoming a fucking pain in the ass, and it’s going to be the final and only reason I end up moving away from it. WTF, makes me feel like I’m back to using Windows. How the hell can I avoid Nobara tampering the firefox welcome page every week?...
Apple does flat-rate repairs for Mac laptops that haven’t been damaged by impact or liquid damage. If they can perform a repair cheaper in-store, they usually will do so, but I am going on old info from being a repair tech at an Apple Store a decade ago. You could ask an Apple Store employee to get the cost of flat-rate repairs from a technician and then you’d know what you’re potentially looking at. I’ve owned many Mac laptops and only needed a repair on one (and that was still under warranty).
I’m a Mac nerd who’s fascinated by Framework laptops. I don’t think either decision would be wrong. I haven’t got to test drive one, so I can’t offer an informed opinion beyond what I’ve said here.
True on Framework (add more later), not on MacBook Air. But even though my main machine now has 64GB, I found my first-gen MacBook Air (2020) was great with 16GB. However, depends what you need to throw at it.
On the integration bit, I love that I can copy a URL on my phone and paste it into my browser on my Mac. I love that I can copy a meme on my Mac and paste it into a messaging app on my phone.
It’s fucking terrifying. Imagine high schoolers struggling with writing their own name.
This made me skip everything that came after. Even illiterate kids can probably memorize their names, even if they can’t sound out words. Back up your claim and I’ll reconsider.
Elsewhere, in this thread, you’ll see me champion reading and learning. I’m horribly saddened that kids don’t learn to read well. But this statement seems hyperbolic.
I used to listen to the Educate podcast. They would often talk about the science of teaching kids how to read. There were a lot of heartbreaking and infuriating moments when they spotlighted kids who the system had failed or adults who refused to revise bad methodology. It’s pretty evergreen material if anyone wanted to go check it out. Seems like it got sunsetted prior to the pan.
