Lmmfao!

Boy howdy, did you jump the rails on that one.

I love when vegans get all zealot and het up :)

See, there’s the problem.

Slaw ain’t mayo and cabbage. It’s more of a cabbage salad, the way you make chicken salad, or whatever.

It’s all about the extras, the mayo is just the carrier, and the slaw is your base.

You have to bring pepper to the mix, or you’re wasting your time. A bit of apple cider vinegar too. From there, it’s about fine tuning.

The carrots are optional, obviously. And I’ve seen raisins added when there’s carrots, and it’s here than it sounds.

But. Spice wise, you should bring a touch of paprika to the mix, a little pinch of cumin maybe, and some ground red pepper to give that kick underneath those.

Gotta be friendly with your salt cellar, but not too crazy.

And, believe it or not, the tiniest hint of sugar. I’m talking a literal pinch of the stuff per head of cabbage. Maybe two if you’re feeling weird. It enhances the spices, makes the vinegar more subtle, and amplifies the salt so you don’t have to use as much salt. Kinda like how a tiny bit of salt in sweet things can let you use less sugar and still get the flavor right.

Keep your cabbage spread small, smaller than you think it should be. The smallest size in most graters is where you want to be.

Now, instead of this bland mess, you’ve got something that pops and brings its own taste to the party.

Her name is cricket. She’s what’s called a “midnight majesty” marans. I don’t have a picture with me currently, and I know I’ll forget by the time I get home. But she’s this gorgeous black that gets a green iridescence in the sunlight.

She’s called cricket because when we got her, we had to drive all day and it was night time on the way home, and she was making cute little cricket noises the whole way. She’s old enough now that it doesn’t sound the same, but it was the trills that sleepy, contented chickens make. She was small enough to just sit nestled in my kid’s hand at the time.

southsamurai, to memes in Skipping along, missing most of the beats...
@southsamurai@sh.itjust.works avatar

Is legit.

But, you kinda have to do one playthrough like that. You can have the playlist perfect in theory, but until you listen to it all the way through, you can’t know that you got things the way you really want them. Quick skipping through is the best way to do that with the ability to keep track of what your impressions of the playlist are, rather than just vibing to single songs and missing the overall flow.

It’s absurd absurd how much thought I’ve put into playlist creation and management lol.

southsamurai, to linux in what caused you to get into Linux?
@southsamurai@sh.itjust.works avatar

Windows 10. I was originally okay with another windows version rather than just updates, and then my dad put it on his as an “upgrade” from 7. It was utter shit. Took an old but serviceable pc and turned it into fucking molasses. And that’s not even the worst of the bullshit, as it turned out.

So, I grabbed some CDs and burned on some distros and tried shit out. I liked what I found, with the exception of audio.

I’m definitely not obsessed. I don’t have brand loyalty, even when the brand is free as in beer. And I’m not evangelical in that I don’t inject linux into every fucking computer related conversation. But I do speak up for the fact that we aren’t stuck with only windows and no other options, and that I prefer Linux overall.

Now, I am a bit zealous about how much I fucking hate Microsoft and windows, but that’s a separate issue imo. But, again, I don’t inject that into every conversation.

southsamurai, to asklemmy in What's a big tech product that you actually find useful?
@southsamurai@sh.itjust.works avatar

Google drive, sadly.

It’s mainly because it’s the single most supported “cloud” service. You can almost guarantee that any ap or program is going to be able to use it without jumping through hoops, and that’s vital when you need quick, reliable off site storage.

Out here in the country, I might have seconds to back up what I’m working on if weather gets crazy fast. It isn’t often, and even rarer that it would also cause problems with my own storage too, but I’ve lost an entire almost finished novel to a lightning strike before, so I’m a tad paranoid.
