Does debian even exist? I’ve never seen it… I’ve used a dozen flavors of “debian” Linux professionally, as well as the headwear related branches and centos… Most recently I’ve gotten into nixos (I tried a half dozen distros, none of the “Nvidia friendly” distros would work with my graphics card outside safe mode, even after debugging and official docs listing it as compatible with Ubuntu… Five lines in the nix config, will nix again)
All this time, I’ve seen countless mentions of this mythical debian… at this point I’m pretty sure it’s just a meme, like Australia. I get Australia, someone mispronounced Austria and made up this wild story of a land full of deer who hop on two legs and kickbox (hilarious), but I don’t get the joke with debian. Is it just supposed to be the mythical Linux that works on any hardware configuration?
There’s indeed knowledge like that. Like there’s knowledge that, at the moment of understanding, overloads your brain. It’s like your entire model of reality has become invalid, and it can cause physical pain as your brain burns out trying to recalculate everything you know in this new paradigm. Sometimes you go through days in a fog as your brain recovers, sometimes it can still hurt every time you think of it months later. The implications of certain understandings just start the process over all over again
Here’s a particularly grounded and well supported example that’s not transmissible enough to be an info hazard - everything is waves. There’s no particles, just waves of energy that form stable patterns
So I learned all this almost 2 decades ago so the details may be off…
There’s crossover cables, which are a-b and used if you want to connect one computer to another-the tx and rx are flipped from one side to the other, so two “client” devices (like 2 computers) don’t speak and listen on the same line

Aside from that, nothing about the configuration really matters except being standard. The reason they’re not just in stripe-color color order is to separate the tx and rx to minimize interference
I’m pretty sure all of this became moot after hundred gigabit Ethernet became a common thing anyways - they multiplex electrical signals across each of the wires, so they have to negotiate the method or fall back to a simpler protocol from the start. I’m not sure how robust it is to randomly shuffling the order on each side individually (I wouldn’t try it on hardware I wasn’t willing to risk)
So really, all that matters is that it matches. And since we’ve been doing it a certain way for so long, doing it differently is a bad idea. A vs b makes no difference, but you could make green the split pair and it’d be identical. You could use the same arbitrary order on each side and you’d probably not notice much difference, although you might get a lot more errors from minute interference
And FWIW, I think b is the more common standard across the world… But any advantage or disadvantage probably died back when we stopped using those trunk lines with dozens of pairs split out on a punch down block that goes to a bunch of different homes

Not too mention, I’m a programmer. I know every major advancement we’ve made in the past decades…If I designed a language in the early 00’s, I would be worshipped by all programmers. I could’ve made Uber when the iphone launched, and never took a dime in investments. I’d also jump forward AI tech by a couple decades - I could make the world unrecognizable. I’d be a household name, although I’d probably use a pseudonym

I will tell you, it’s not that hard to train your body to treat hunger differently. You just need to fast now and then, most religions have guidelines for this. It doesn’t take much to give you hunger resistance, and it makes a huge difference… You become less affected by low blood sugar and able to ignore hunger when you need to
After your body adjusts, hunger becomes cyclical - you feel hungry, maybe even nauseous, but then it goes away after a couple minutes. If you’re doing something, it’s so easy to ignore you forget about it

I feel like half the problem is that not all of us are on the same page. If I say “I think this sucked”, I want to talk about it, and if anything I hope someone will recontextualize it for me and make it more enjoyable.
I want to hash it out, because anyone who does that in good faith sharpens their own opinion. Maybe I’m wrong and they convince me to give it a second chance, maybe I’m wrong and realize I only liked it for nostalgia. Or maybe we realize our opinions differ, and narrow down the reason why
I don’t think I’d like Picard aside from nostalgia…I don’t think it was fun or artistically valuable, but I didn’t stop watching. I don’t think it’s good-If you like it, I’m not going to say you’re wrong, but I will argue no one should watch it if they don’t love Patrick Stuart already. Not even TNG, the rest of the crew was pretty hollow cameos - his character was badly written, but I watched it through because it was more of his character
Think more like a slurry of connective tissue, bits of fat, and scraps of meat pressure washed off the bone and swept into a drain. The legally allowable quantities of cleaning chemicals and feces are also pretty concerning…

He was descriptive, not prescriptive. He was not an advocate of capitalism, he was explaining it - and if you read the wealth of nations and your takeaway was “Lassie Faire capitalism is a good idea”, reread it
