  1. they’re not using a conventional network
  2. they still have to pay for the backend infrastructure
  3. my point is that this is not a client side feature, so it can’t be unlocked by some cpu vulnerability. This is a case in which a subscription service DOES make sense

i think it’s better.
the only downside is minor visual bugs with the taskbar, and the edge causing issues if uninstalled (may cause update loop or permanently break all pdf files unless you set another handler and previewer beforehand)
explorer got little bit slow ever since the tabs got added but it’s definitely not unusable, and I’d rather take 1 second hit to the loading time than an explorer without tabs

it worked for me even with an internet connection, but you probably should still disconnect the internet while installing windows, you’ll get less bloatware

you don’t need to do anything convoluted or remove your internet connection, you just need to run a single command before doing anything (which will cause your oc to reboot and the offline option to unlock)

Microsoft account crap wasn’t as bad as it is in the most recent releases.
also win10 is the first version to introduce some significant changes that make windows so much less annoying to use and more unixy
i hate legacy windows stuff so fucking much but it’s kinda a miracle how they made it work out with windows 10

its faster to change the ip using the win11 settings app than with Control panel, also DNS over HTTPS is missing from control panel and only available in the settings app

my current dell one has an amd cpu, slotted ram (no soldered on crap) and nvme + sata (with space for a drive); too bad the build quality and the touchpad sucks
my old lenovo one also had replacable slotted cpus (with Pentium 2020m pre-installed). The lid also just slid off (like on a rail), with only one screw needing removal, no flimsy plastic clips. I broke plastic part of the hinge on that one by just flipping it over, oh well.

legitimate interest is still not a valid legal basis for data collection/tracking in Europe, so it’s not that big of an issue (…but it still allows them to do more they usually can without “legitimate interest”). also most tracking scripts and cookies will be blocked by uBlock anyway

i just keep it on 24/7, even while showering/sleeping (i basically only take it off to charge, which it only needs once every 10-14 days for like 15 minutes).
The vibro alarm thingy is surprisingly effective at waking me up! (somehow wakes me up even faster than traditional loud noise alarms)
but yeah in your case i wouldn’t be very convinient

you can make a google account without a phone number by using an android 4 device.
also what i nean is you can just get a sim card from a normal carrier or any reseller (go with resellers if possible, like small kiosks/grocery stores that resell sim card boxes).
This may not work in countries sith mandatory id verification for phone numbers tho

tbf /dev/mem is mapped to physical memory, access to most of which is completely denied by the memory controller in the cpu (while it’s in usermode), no matter rhe access level

yeah i bought the “supercomputer” as a replacement for my asus laptop from 2015 that required regular percussive maintenance for the sound card to work. (controller for the hard drive and sound card were on a separate daughter board, which would regularly partially disconnect on the sound card side. separation on the hdd side was almost guaranteed hdd corruption, which happened once to me)
it had a fried dgpu, so no display output… also the display was borderline unusably bad (one of the most awful tn panels I’ve ever seen)
but it was actually fast enough to run gnome btw.

most anticheats run in the kernel, even the most popular ones like battleye and vanguard.
also they are often installed automatically while launching games for the first time, without any prompts

you don’t have to use all of the app containers things, pacman, apt or whatever your distro uses is often enough.
if you don’t have previews at all, your system is completely broken and fucked up if you get a command not found, well you just need install the missing tool…
