Those last couple of steps actually involve a shotgun and condolences to the devs family. Take no shit.

Who the hell keeps their house at 68F?! 74-78 is my preferred temp but I can cope all the way to 85. But you turn that below 70 and we’re gonna have a problem (both in the “I’m fucking cold, bitch” sense as well as the “do you own the electrical company or something? I didn’t know you’re a billionaire”)

Not really, unfortunately; the last time I checked, over half the games I regularly play had major issues, such as no multi-player, graphical corruption, etc.

I’d hop off windows but it’s still not viable yet.

As I recall off the top of my head, gta5 (buggy), the division 2 (anticheat), the entirety of Forza Horizon 3+4 and Halo Wars 2 (since they are MS Store titles)… I want to say watch dogs legion (uplay) but tbh it’s been a bit and my memory is fuzzy. Also since proton is for steam, I assume EA/Origin, which wipes a dozen games with one swoop, too (modern NFS, The Sims, Burnout, Battlefield…).

I’ve got a bunch of older games too that I keep installed for nostalgia, but haven’t looked at their playability scores; stuff like (all listed are non-digital copies) NFS 2 through Most Wanted (2012), GTA 3 / VC / SA, Midtown Madness 1+2, System Protocol One, TDU 1+2 (with third-party multi-player support thru TDU World launcher)…

I think the rest of my currently installed games should work ootb (no mp/steam managed or GOG / physical copy/new enough that I don’t think they’d need patches or workarounds…). But with over 7k gameplay hours logged on the Forza Horizon series alone, there’s a lot I play daily and losing just a couple would be too much. I’m out of the ‘tinker until it works’ phase, I just want things to work, ya know?

Edit: I’m also not sure how deeply ingrained the MS account stuff is, but also Horizon 5 (steam) and Halo MCC + Infinite (steam) too

I did this on reddit for comments I knew would be a shitshow, just drop brutal fire, set to no notifications, post. Let the haters spew and I’m just kicking back on the next conversation.

So (having tried various distro for almost 2 decades now, but always reverting to windows) the two useful things as I read that are 1) not having to know thst some bullshit distro doesn’t use apt and you need to figure out wtf the package manager is because this distro is a special snowflake and they wanted to show the world by being a bitch and not using apt; and 2) direct from devs, which is nice and imo preferred.

But like… native packages mostly handled this? I’ve been watching from the sidelines for a few years as this happened and I’m still like ‘this is a solution looking for a problem, and adding complexity in the name of simplicity’.

Can I get a tl;dr on flatpak? I think it’s basically snaps but again ‘we can make this standard better! by creating another fragment to the available standards!’ which is just, ugh.

That kinda is (one of) the big issues with Linux, in my eyes - everyone thinks their shitty implementation is best, and this happens for everything, and so instead of having one standard for everything you have 53 and none of them get the proper dev time and so ‘I can do this better’ and now you have 54 standards and […]. Like, it’s cool to be able to patchwork together the special sauce of 18 distros manually, but like… There could be consolidation and then 1 would have the special sauce of 18 in a user-friendly iso instead of taking 35 hours to get working. As a user, I want shit to just fucking work, or be moderately easy to get. Adding more fragmentation to the space is doing a disservice to the whole community.

    My thoughts.

Yeah that’s me, hi. It’s not my fault you can’t even take the temp change when you sip on your pumpkin spice iced latte.

Add my hat to the “wtf does Disney make anymore?” club. I’ve never watched any SW, anything Marvel, I haven’t seen a Disney movie since VHS was the standard. I have friends who are very much into Marvel movies and even then I couldn’t tell you anything about any of the films, I have absolutely zero interest (there’s a guy with a circle shield with a star on it, I think?).

Hell, the only content I consume is stuff I find out about organically on my own; I’ve been enjoying my anti-advertising bubble for near two decades. I didn’t even know about a couple of these ‘big name’ studios running streaming services until a show I was actually interested in slid across my radar, and I’m like ‘the fuck, Paramount is doing this now?’. Disney I found out because people were bitching about yet another streaming service, otherwise I’d still be in the dark.

I grew up in peak Disney content time (90-00, everyone knew about the Disney Channel), and other than a handful of VHS films and Mickey Mouse, they might as well not exist to me. I’m sure there is a ton of stuff like that, where I just have no interest and with the lack of advertising I completely skate on by, none the wiser.

What about a tier system, something like “excellent / great / good / fair / neutral / cautious / warning / negative”? Hide the actual number from the user, so there’s no ‘mine is bigger than yours’ contest.
