Illecors, to linux in Sway-Talisman: Sway – Terminal Application Launcher in Scratchpad, Minimalist And Native

I’m not convinced this is better thatn my floating alacritty window piping through fzf, sort and xargs.

Repo needs at least screenshots, ideally a gif or two showing the product in action.

Other than that - great work!

LunchEnjoyer, to piracy in Introducing Coaxist: a single Docker container for running Plex + Debrid with automatic request fetching
@LunchEnjoyer@lemmy.world avatar

Does this mean we only need one debrid account when using plex in different places? I am currently responsible for the movie+series management in my family and will put things on plex for whatever is in demand. However it would be nice if I didnt have to do this, and that they could just fetch things themeselves in Plex. Not super keen on having to pay for a debrid account per location, as debrid will ban the account if seen to be used on different public addresses (if im not mistaken)

npm? So this uses electron? I essentially run a stripped down browser to render a fucking OSD? I can’t do that with good conscience.

loutr,
@loutr@sh.itjust.works avatar

npm means it’s a JS app running on a JS runtime, which is roughly similar to what python does. Electron runs on top of the runtime and indeed provides some kind of stripped down browser.

But yeah, in this case the app does use electron :)

simplex seems to check all boxes for respecting privacy. it doesnt rely on using any identity (no strong selectors like email addresses or phone number). seems very forward-thinking in its concepts.

    1. was apparently fixed with latest version.
    JoeBidet,
    @JoeBidet@lemmy.ml avatar

    also now that i think of it:

    1. there is now a discovery mechanism of some sort… but otherwise it’s a feature and not a bug that you can only identify people whom you had an initial exchange with. much preferable than something that Signal that without asking (and without opting out?) will by default access all your contacts and match them through the use of a strong selector (phone number) also:
    2. i think with the minimal knowledge the server has of its users (and the no-identity concept) this really limits risk. Also it means that for the most tight of security models, one can use their own server (which is not feasible with most other chat protocols)

    so all in all: go simplex! :)

    JokeDeity, to piracy in PSA: The popular leech client Stremio got an upgrade to spoof other clients than TorrentStorm.

    I could never get it to work well, every movie I tried would only play for a few seconds then buffer, then just become unplayable, on very good Internet.

    Sad to see that it’s GTK-based. Cool concept overall though, I may give it a shot at some point to compare to CoreCTRL

    isVeryLoud, (edited )

    As a GNOME user, I’m happy to see it’s GTK, but idk why it’s not Libadwaita.

    We’re never gonna get one cohesive UI on Linux, it’s always gonna look out of place somewhere.

    If the backend is not tied to the UI, it might be easy to reuse the work for a Qt6 front-end.

    The f-droid version should be ok for now, but if you installed this from the malware distribution channel aka the Playstore I would recommend to deinstall them before the next update hits.

    @Lodra@programming.dev avatar

    Has anyone here tried Kando yet? Looks like a very nice tool. How does it compare to typical keyboard shortcuts?

    Chewy7324,

    This project is currently in a very early stage of development. Kando is not yet a functional menu but rather a prototype which demonstrates the feasibility of the concept.

    Since Kando is still in early development, it might be a good idea to look at the Gnome Extension Fly-Pie. It’s from the same developer and it looks like Kando will be similar.

    I wonder what’s the difference between this and Fly Pie, like, why did he stop developing the first and started the latter.

    min_fapper,

    He says so in the readme

    Chewy7324,

    I have been working on Fly-Pie for more than 3 years now and I am very happy with the result. However, I have always wanted to create a similar application for the desktop in general. This is why I started this project.

    dbx12, to programmer_humor in Someone has started answering to the github stalebot with memes

    The stalebot is most times useless. The only scenario where I can see use of it is a maintainer waiting for the reporter to add information. But closing issues because no maintainer checked on them? That’s garbage and discourages bug reports.

    kevincox,
    @kevincox@lemmy.ml avatar

    But they get scared because their program has 500 bugs! Close them and now your program only has 10 bugs! Problem solved.
